OMTUARY.
Miss Mary E. Lyon passed into
the life eternal September 15, 1911,
at her home in Homo wood. Horry
county, S. C. A native of Vermont,
in her youf.g womanhood she went
to Kentucky where she was at the
head of a school for girls for fifteen
years. She removed to Charleston,
W. Va., for some years, and thence
to Evanston, III., where she was
connected with an orphanage. She
remained there until she came to
Sruth Carolina about twelve years
ago, and settled with a number of
other cn'oni^ts from the central
west Hero she resided with a brother,
who died several years ago, and
a widowed s s;er who still sucvives.
Miss Lyon rendered very valuable
service to the world in which she
lived, cspec.ailly in educational work.
She greatly love i children and young
people. She was the faithful and
efficient superintendent or the
llornewood Sunday school until her
death. She did much for the educational
and religious welfare of the
Home wood Colony and the surrounding
country. Sne w.is a member of
the Methodist church. While her
well spent life is ended here, it has
begun anew amid th?> glories of the
eternal world Albert ?> Betts.
Death of Samuel P. Hardwick.
Samuel P. Hardwick, a son of the
late John M. Hardwick, long a resident
of Wilmington, N. C , died at
Myrtle Beach last Friday at the age
of fifty years He had resided formerly
at Conway, and for some time
h Id the position of salcsmau with
one of the Syrian traders on 3rd
Avenue. He had been ill for a long
time, and his sufferings were intense.
He was a nephew of the late
William E. Hardwick, who was for
along number of years Judge of
Probate of Horry County.

School Entertainment at Socastee
Thanksgiving Night.
On the evening of the 30th inst, ,
the Socastee Graded School will give
an entertainment in the school build
ine at that place.
A very fine program consisting
of songs, recitations, dialogues, etc ,
is being prepared for the occasion.

they can to make the entertainment
