ing section to hold their cotton, is I
not meeting with anything like an I
enthusiastic reception. The plant- I
ers don't seem to take hold.
A legal light, who is well informed I
as to the status of the Great Amer-I
ican Tobacco Trust's plan for dissolution,
declared before the Congress-1
ional investigating committee that
"it was tho most colossal judicial I
farce ever enacted, as it legalizes
illegal acts."
The resolution committee of the
Good Roads Congress,, which was
recently in session at Richmond Va., I
decided to memoralizo the United
States Congress to make an approbation
"for a comprehensive plan
I
of highway improvement at tberate
of $50,000,000 a year."

Assemble yourselves together today
in your usual place of worship
and from a heart overflowing with
love and gratitude to Almighty God
to return thanks to him for bis
manifold blessing betowed upon uaud
for his goodness and mercy
during the year just drawing to a
close,
The college boys of the South are
organizing "Woodrow Wilson "clubs
within their respective colleges, to
promote his Presidential1 aspirations.
But unfortunately for Mr Wilson
at least nine-tenths of these boys
are below the voting age, and it takes
' * - * t!?l U o . .
something moro suuswuuai miau
college yells to elTect his nomination
and election. Wo admire their exuberance
but question their judg
ment.
^ _ \
Wo see it stated in many Democratic
papers that the party has
been turned over lock, stock and barlel
to Hon William Jennings Bryan,
and to him has been assigned tie
task of naming the party nominee
for President. Three times has Mr
Bryan been before the people asking
their suffrage, and three times has he
led the party to disastrous defeat.
He is a dead cock in the pit and the
sooner he is taken out the better it
will bo for the party and the party's
interests.
The Herald acknowledges its in
debtedness to Rev Dr Langston, the
beloved and consecrated pastor of
the Conway Baptist church, for the
synopsis of the proceedings of the
Waccamaw Baptist Association,published
last week. By reason of an
unusual pressure of other business,
which would brook no delay, it was I
impossible for the Ifiditor to attend
tho sessions of the Association, fo
he did the next best thing possible
bv employing a delegate to furnish
the Herald with a copy of the proceedings,
For some reason not yet
explained, this delegate failed to do
so and in the Herald's extremity the
Doctor came to its relief. Many
thanks, Doctor, for your kindness.
In Memorium.
On August 22, 1911. death claimed
for his own Mrs J II Oliver,
After weeks of illness her body
was relieved of suffering, her spirit
was carried through the dark waters
by a sad ferryman to its God
Mrs Oliver was one of the most
enthusiastic workers that organized
the Woman's Missionary Society of
the Conway Baptist Cnurch and
was its first president.
Many times did she serve a president
and *he did it faithfully.
When the care of little children
kept her from attending the meetings,
her offering with a prayer was
sent.
They rest with their Saviour
They wait their crown
Their travel stained garments,
Are all laid down.
