NOVEMBUR 2 1911 Was tie T mes building at L?os Angeles, Cal , blown up by dynamite or gas? is a problem that the jury will have to solve and upon that solution hangs the fate of the Mf.Nn.mn.ms who are now on trial in that city charged with dynamiting the building. Nothing has been heard from the petition asking f >r a passenger station to be located on the old turntable site in the upper part of Conway; or rather, if there has been we know nothing about it. This is an important matter in which all of Conway is deeply interested and we trust that the railroad people will see it to their interest, as well as to the interest of Conway, to grant our request concerning this matter, IikiU io vt o AM.ihln un/1 111 k f. VV UIUU JO I v U ^UUUIV IV UU JV40V* We are glad that Conway has at last a working civic league and w< are txpeet-ing great results from it along the line of improved civic conditions. This organization supplies a want long felt and we believe we but echo the sentiments of all when we say that we appreciate the importance of the work the women have undertakenjrom a sense of patriotic motives and unselfish devotion to the best interest of Conway and we bespeak for them all the aid and encouragement that can possibly be given so that their "work of love" might be carried out as planned. They all figure extensively in north western papers especially. Col Bryan's paper. The Commoner, makes frequent use of. the terms. Col Brvan has had muc'i to do with popularizing the new doctiues, especially the two first named; we believe be is not set on the "recall " It wili be remembered that, the President vetoed the bill admit tint? Arizona into the Union boause its proposed constitution provided for the recall of judges Ai erwards that feature was eliinina'ed, and then the territory was adi.iiti.ed as a state. Wh it do these term n mean? Speaking in a general way, without going into details, the following explanation will be sufficient. 1 The initiative provides that the people may "initiate" laws or legislation It is done in this wa\: A certain proportion of the vo'er*, favoring the enactment of some measure, may file a petition asking that, the measure be submitted t< the people to vote on and decide thus whether it shall become law *2 The referendum is somewhat the opposite of the initiative. In that case acts passed by the legislature roust be submitted to the peo pie and be voted on b> them before they become law. 3. The recall provides that if a certain proportion of the voters get ' tired of a public officer before nis ter*n of office expires, or f??r any reason think he ought not tov hold the position, they can presunt their petition to the proper authorities and an election will oe ordered, ir. which the people can say whether be shall get out or remain in, Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
