Amonj? the latest fashion notes
from Paris is one to the efleet that
the hoopshirt bos been revived and
i18 reappearance has met with popular
favor. This is an ailliction from
which we can devoutly pray, "the
pood Lord deliver us!"
The Charleston News and Courier
in defining the qualifications of an
elector to obtain a registrfciou cert.icate
to vote in a municipal election
keeps .he following Constitution
al prerequisites standing in its columns:
"The citizen must present to
the registration oJIiee (1st) a county
registration certificate dated not
prior to 11)08, arid (2nd) a poll tax
receipt for 11)10:" A word to the
wise is sullicieut.
Wo submit as a matter of fact that
no town in the State of South Caro1?
-- __ - r il-.i - U
una, nor county ior luuo matter, uat
made more growth and development
in the last ten or fifteen years than
has Horry and Conway and thr
beauty of the whole matter is that
they are still growing. We are no
boom county and town, but to tbe
contrary our growth has been steady
and healthy and our progress is
ever onward and upward. The reason
for this is that we can and do
make good our every claim that
Horry and Conway are the best
places in the world far the invest*"ment
of capital and the location for
the home seeker.

Bar, there being no regular judge
available, Governor Blease has commissioned,
upon the recommendation
of Chief Justice Jones, Hon J E
Brazeale to preside at the present
term of the court for that county,
vice Judge Klugh to ill to preside.
In recommending Mr Brazeale, the
Chief Justice but followed his well
defined policy of honoring the request
of the Bar making it. Thus the
lion and the lamb lays down together,
the sword has been beaten into
pruning hooks and the spears into
ploughshares. The Executive and
Judicial wings of the government
now Hop together in unison, peace
reigns in Warsaw and the dawn of
the millennium is here. All's well
that ends well,
ONLY RUMORS
But Straws Sometimes Indicate Which
Way the Wind Blows.
The ways of a rail road are part
finding out and altogether mysterious.
When it comes to the improvement
or extension of the system
those nearest the throne are as dumb
as an oyster and as close as a clam,
therefore, except on rare occasions,
any news concerning these matters
of interest to the people generally
originates in mere rumors whose reliability
must be taken with many
grains of allowances; or the statements
are the result of a careful
study and close observation of the
equation by him whomakes it. Then
again, it might simply be a case of
the thought being father to the wish.
Hut be this as it may there is one
significant movement in railroad
circles which has been observed by
many and has been the subject o<
much comment, surmises and conjectrues
from as many more. Every
now and then all during last summer
car loads of piling have passed
through Conwav Aynorward over the
Conway, Coast and Western Rail
road. Kuraor nas it teat tcis piling
is the property of the A. C L., the
owners of this road. Now, there is
not a trestle between Con way and
Aynor. The question naturally
conns up, if this piling is the property
of the railroad why is all this
valuable timber being moved to a
point where it is obvious it is uot
now needed, unless it be the intention
of the owners to sometime in
the near future to extend the road on
through to Marion nr Cades or some
other point and use this piling
through Little Pee Dee swamp?
No other logical conclusion can be
. ' " ' . '
be arrived at. The prevailing opin-1
ion among those who are as much at
sea as we are concerning the inten*
tion of the railroad people regarding
the disposition of this property,
whether it will be extended or remaiu
in the woods where it now is,
seems to be that the force of circumstances
now at work will sooner or
later compel the ACL people to
bring the Conway, Coast and Western
road out of the plney woods at
Aynor and give it better terminal
facilities for self protection if for
no other reason. We are looking
forward to this long deferred result
with patience and hops.
Is the World Growing Better?
Many things go to prove that it is.
The way thousands are trying to'
help others is proof. Among them
is Mrs.'W. W. Gould, of Pittsfield, i

Averts Awful Tragedy.
Timely advice given Mrs. C. Willoughby,
of Marengo, Wis., (R. No

saved two lives. Doctors had said
her frightful cough was a "consump

help her. After many remedies
failed, her aunt urged her to take
Dr. King's New Discovery, "I have
been using it for some time," she
wrote "and the awful cougb has almost
gone. It also saved my little
