THURSDAY. OCTOBKR 5, 1911
Several avowed candidates for
several of the county offices were
much in evidence in Conway last
week. It seems from this distance
that the SherifYality will bo tte
"bone of contention" in the coming
battle of ballots.
Senator Tillman is said to be
more interested in his farm operations
than he is in politics just now.
This must not be taken, however
that be is not hoeirg his own polit ical
row and toting his own skille'
for his game eye is set on Washington.

that time Colorado, the Dokatas.
Montana. Washington, Idaho. Wyoming,
Utah and Oklahoma have
entered the Union, Now it is Arizona

mission there will be forty-eight
States with only Alaska sitting or
the front door steps.
Col. D. A. Spivey was the only
delegate from Horry who attended
the Cotton Convention held in Colum
*
bia last week. The Convention was
harmonious throughout its deliberations
and was made up of farmers,
bankersand merchants. Plans were
formed to aid cotton sellers in obtaining
a better price for cotton
Bankers and merchants are accredited
with pledging themselves to do
what they could to help out the
good cause.
Gov. Blease, it is conceded by
many of his warmest and closest po
iitical friends made a bad break in
the Spartanburg affair and lost mant
votes in organized labor circles
wherein lies his political strength
The policy of the advocates of clean
politics is to make Blease responsible
for bis own mistakes and misgovernment
and his defeat will become
an assured fact. Whatever
we do, let us give him no grounds
whatever for him to cry "persecu
tion."

that katydids are awful gossippsr>

It is hoped that Mr. Carnegie will
so conduct the paper which he is to

that no body will ever have a desire
to whip the editor.

George Potato has been arrested

should be kept off the streets.
