SUBSCRIPTION ONE DOLLAR PER YEAR H. H. WOODWAKI). Kditor THURSDAY. AUGUST 17 1911 AN IMPOSITION The City Fathers are Trying to Make the Impossible Possible. We are informed that the Town Council has passed an ordinance requiring all of the closets in rear of the Main business block to be removed. We are further informed that the Town Fathers have failed to provide by their resoulution or ordinance any other means of which advantage may be taken bv the owners of the property, when this wholesale removal takes place. Some one said that each owner of a buildiny could ioin the sower lihe which was put in along Laurel Street by a Mr ilcaty a year or two age, but still the Town has failed to provide the necessary water to carry of the filth through the sewer, And the engineer states that there is not a sufficient fall to accomplish this purpose, that they are acting hastily we think will be proved when they try to enforce such an ordinance. Before they require these drastic remedies they should provide not only a sewer line but a sufficient supply of water to run it, and then they might reasonably require the owners of property to put in closets and lavatories anci join them to tho general sewerage. Again the Town has had a system of cleaning tho closets, and if tho system has been inadequate, it is the fault of the framers of the ordinances, and alack of attention to the duties imposed by them. Banks, sold the first bale of new cotton here today to Mi ? M. Jaieiky, merchant and cotton buyer. The bale weighed 417 pounds and brought 12c. First Bale at Clio Ciio. Aug 15?Spesial: The first bale of the season s cotton crop wa^ sold here tcday, Mr Charles Man ning being the buyer, for Rogers, McCabe & Co., and 13 3 4 cents being the price paid.
