ORDINANCE
Relating to the Running of Motor
Vehicles Within the Town of Conjik
way.
Be it Ordained by the Mayor and
Wardens f f the Town of Conway,
in Council Assembled:
1. That it shall be unlawful for
any person to operate a motor vehicle
within the limit of the town
of Conway without first displaying
upou the back of such vehicle in a
^ c msplclou* place the name of the
county or State in which his eertifi
eate of registration is filed, and also
the number of such vehicles, which
name and number shall be visible at
a reasonable distance as required by
the statutes of tbo Slate of South
Carolina,
2 That every motor vehicle while
in use upon the streets of the Town
of Conway shall be pro/ided with
good and efiioient brakes, and also
wkh a suitable boll, horn, or other
signal, and be so constructed as to
exhibit during the uerird necessary
from or after sunset until not necessary
before sunrise a white light
visible within a reasonable distance
in the direction toward which the
vehicle is proceeding and a red light
in reverse direction; and do exhibit,
ruch lights during the times named
and, when necessary, during a heavy
p fog iu the daytime.
3. That no person shall operate a
motor vehicle upon the streets of
the Town of Conway at a higher
rate of speed lhan is reasonable and

ing regard to the trallio and use of
the streets, the approach to crossings
and intersecti ins, curves,
bridges, and descents; or shall operate
such motor vehicle so as to endanger
the life, limb, or property of
any person; or, in any event, at a
greater rate than eight miles per
hour.
4. That, upon approaching a pedestrian
upon the streets of the town,
or a horse or other draft animal being
ridden or driven thereon, a persou
operating a motor vehicle shall
give warning of its approach bv
signalling with a horn, bell, or other
wise not calculated to frighten such
animals, and use every reasonable
precaution to insure the safety of
such persons or animals by all the
. means contemplated by the statutes

laborei or other person whatsoever

(commonly called the Sabbath) or

the Mayor of the Town shall

any of the particulars before mentioned,
and upon his view, or confession
of the party, or proof of
any one or more witnesses, upon
oath, the said May6i< shall give a
warrant under his seal, to seizes the
said goods cried, showed forth, or
put on sale as aforesaid, and to sell
the same; and, tfs to the other penalties
and forfeitures, to impose the

per cent of all the tobacco sold ic

fraction of selling half, and from
July 20th to August 1st we averagec
