Death of Mr Pettigrew Moore.

The many friends and acquaintances
of Bro Pettigrew Moore will
be pained to know of his death, which
occurred on lastSunday, April 30th.
He had been in failing health for
several weeks, and the family and
friends who attended him were not
surprised when the end came.
On Monday p. in., May 1st, the
remains of Bro Moore were laid to
rest in the "Player Cemetery," in
the presence of a large number of
his neighbors and friends.
At the home and also at the grave
t~e writer held short funeral services,
after which the Masonic order,
of which he was a member, took
charge of the corpse and buried it
in the usual manner and with the
usual honors of that o^der.
The wife of Bro Moore had preceded
him some four years ago. The
surviving members of the family
ate as follows: Mrs N. T. Woodcock,
of Point Caswell; Mrs Robert
Henry and Mrs William Harrell. of
Atkinson; Mrs A. Turner, of Willard;
Miss Winnie A. Moore and
Mrs W. L. I'layer, of Burlaw; Mrs
John Cannon, of Bayboro, S, C.
and Mrs T. B. Cowan, of Wrightsville
Beach and W. H. and W. D.|
Moore, of Hurgaw, lie also has
five living brothers, all of whom arc
more tl an seventy two years olc
and one sister.
Bro Mtore was born April 4th,
1828. and died April MOfch, 1911, be
ing a little more than eighty-three
years old. He had been- a consistent
member of the Methodist church
for a number of years. He was a
faithful and prominent member of
the Masonic order for some forty
year9, and Master of the Burgaw
Lodge for about thirty years. He
was a faithful husband, a devoted
father and an obliging neighbor.
He had not gathered together as
much of this world's goods as many
others, but tried through the long
life which Gcd permitted him to live
to 'May up treasures in heaven."
Since bis death the writer has

"He was a good man." "I have
never heard any one speak evil of
him." "He was one man "who believed
it is more blessed to give
than to receive." To such a life
may the words of the Psalmist appropriately
be applied: "Mark the
perfect man, and behold the upright
for the end of that man is peace "
While Bro Moore was a hard
worker. He, indeed,ate bread by the
sweat of his brow. He did not forget
to read bis Bible. A friend told
ms that he had read it through consecutively
forty times. To him it
was "a lamp unto his feet and a
light unto his pathway." This is
an example which all would do well

C J Johnson, son of Mr and Mrs
W R Jihn.'on, wa9 born November
1, 1887 and died Juue 1, 1011 age 24
years. He was buried at Bunker
Hill, on Friday, June 2, 1911. He
leaves a father, sisters and brothers
and a large circle of friends and
acquaintances to mourn his depar
lure.
