A bill has been Introduced in the
National Hjuse of Representative,
by RepresentativoSheppard, of Texas,
to fix the rate of letters at one
cent per ounce instead of two cents,
as under the presont law.
A*negro charged with a brutal assault
upcn a young lady in Columbus,
Ga., last week, was hustled out
of the city for safe keeping. God
save the mark. The details ot tt<
horrible crirn^ are too sickening for
r?uPlication in these columns.
f ?
It is possib'e for Congressman E lerbe
to do a good thing for Horry
by having tho appropriation for th?
improvement of the YVaecamaw rlvei
increased from $50,000 to $100,000.
js Won't you try, Mr. Ellerbo?
Texas, tfce largest State in the
Uaited States in point of area made
greater progress in its increase a*
population during tho last ten year*
than any State which exceeded it k
population, and now ranks fiftl
State in population.
Horry came out creditably in th?
State corn contest and while not
coming home with the banner
her boys should by no means be discouraged.
Thoy should start ou
with the determination to win in*
banner from the victors next year
They can win it if they will.
'j
According to the official count of
the returns of tho thirteenth censu>
the population of the State of South
Carolina is 1,515,400, as compared
with 1,340,316 in 1000, and 1,151,140
in 1910, The increase from 1900
to 1910 therefore, is 1?5,084, or 13 1
per cent, as compared with an increase,
for the preceding decade o!
189,167, or 16 4 per cent. Horry's
population is put down at 26,995
against 23,364 in 1900, again of 3,631,
in ten years.

The appalling death rate from kidney
disease is due in most cases to
tho fact that the little kidney troubles
are usually neglected until they
become serious. The slight symptoms
give place to chronic disorders
and the sufferer goes gradually into
the grasp of diabetes, dropsy,
Bright's disease, gravel or some
other serious form of kidney com
plaint.
