Loris Dots.
Wo hava such a {food little fcowD
that we seldom sea any news from
^ here in your paper. Loris is now
ou a boom.
Oar hitfh school building is now
ttoing up and will soon be completed.
... .. . .. ? . ,i ?
Tnis will De tne nicest wuuaou
school building in Hjrry County,
and is creating great educational
interest. Wo have also been extremely
lucky in securing teachers.
We feel like we have the bast and
th?v 8' 0'n to be doing ;h?ir best.
To look ovt r our town and see
how thickly it is dotted with new
houses and brick stores, it seems
that Loris has struck a streak of
progress. Besides the buildings already
comp eted, several are going
up aud others being planned.
Mr. B. P. Gore has a very nice
cottage nearing completion on East
Main Street.
Mr. W. E. Portor has a nice
house going up on East Main Stroet
near the Methodist parsonage.
Mrs. Fletcher Prince is building
on West Main Street and will soon
have a nice house into which she
will soon move.
Mr. Reeves is opening up about
a $15,000 00 stock of goods in the
new brick stores on Walnut Street

for him much success iu business.
Ojp town is filled mostly with
free spirited liberal hearted people.
This they often manifest, to the
iMethodist preachers especially.
One evening last week quite a
crowd cime to the Methodist parsonage
with a regular old fashioned
pounding. Q jite a supply of groceries
and otner gifts which were
hjghly appreciated. They came
from the dilTerent denominations
On this occasion nice music was rendered,
and a very pleasant social
time in general. This is not the first
time this year that the Doris people
have visited the parsonage on the
same sort of a mission and such
f^iests are always welcome and guch
gifts are always appreciated. So 1
can speak for the parson and say
come again.

\A Trip to the Beach.

1JEAU JL1) I'J'Utt?na jfuu n?vc uuu
hid to indulga mo with a correspondence
for some time will yon
*please print for me a short letter
in behalf of a trip made by myself
and some of my friends to the beach
this week. We set sail on last Tuesday
for Windy Hill Beach which
was reached bv us at I'd o'clock, and
as we procooded with oar journey.
I could not help to notice the great
\ - improvements that had in a few
j years taken place along side of our
' way. The weather was ideal The
warm sunshine and the pleasant
breeze that fanned the leaves on the
beautiful trees was all that human
heart conld wish for, as we would
pass a long and look upon the fie'ds
of corn, cotton and potatoes and the
many good homes filled with the
m >st kind peop'es it would fi rje
me to exclaim what a great country
our Lord had blest us with; and
this brought mo further to consider
that if these rich soils over which
wo pished and those industrous
peoples we met, that has done so
1 well as they have wo can only imagine
what more could have been done
had they had railroad facilities
We suppose one might suppose
that he was travelling through a
providence. Ou! may the Lord
speed the day when some great man
or company of men shall split this
country wide open with rail roads
So all those lands which now lay
dormant and useless can be brought
to a high state of cultivation so as
rto bring a blessing to man and
beast..
Oh! hew our hearts was made
happy when we met up with my old
friend and comrade Mr. Drew Patrick
who met us and told us his
dr ors wore open and that wo were
welcomed to his home as Ion# as we
wanted to stay. Mr. Patrick is
the right kind of men we need to
live near the beach, so when we go
down to get fish we can have a home
to cover our heads from storm and
cold. I suppose that there is other
,geod men in the community that
would do the same thing.
Dear Mr. Editor, allow me to say
that in going to tho beach by Siar
Bluff and to Windy Hill Beach,
where we met Mr. Patrick at his
lovely home, we travelled over some
of the b^st lands of Ilorry.
We believe that Windv Hill has
a smiling future awaiting it, is the
nearest place to preach the beach
from the Loris section.
