The ear is a tine one and shows what can bedone on sandv land in this county. The acre made 60 3 7 bushels of shelled corn besides 750 pounds of good fodder. The specimen ear at the office grew on a.stalk with two other ears of good size. I Senator Spivey h is j j.st finished v] cf 1 vaf8 of t! r toitiv in the iu- j rarest of good r .ad? a'd the propt se I plan to get them. lJo has visited ?'ve? v township in the county mak-' ng 24 ipmches in 7 d vys averaging ?ver three soeach *s per day. It v as ind ?ed a rather t enuous campaign a regular 'Teddy Rnsev.dt wh rl wind" campaign. Mr Spivey returded from (ireen Sea late Saturlay flight and made his final speech o a large crowd at the Court House Monday. Judging from the comments of tho j I'.rowd, and from what wc can learn i | ^roin 'he sections he has zeeo, the! l3ond issue will be voted by a large j majority. I Col Spivey was seen by J. W, j Ogilvie and asked what was his impression as to the result of the coming election on the Cood Roads question. "Well, it may not be altogether proper for me to say bow I think the lection is going. 1 have pretty well 'elided views (ti it, and can say h it 1 am perfectly satisfied with the prospects." "It has i3t been so much my purpose to "carry" this election as it i has been my detei miration to perform my duty in this important matter. 1 have simply endeavored to explain my plan and then leave ^his isue to be settled bv the voter at the ballot box. if we bad wished to thrust this bond issue ou the people we could have done so, as you know, without resorting to the ; ballot box. But I am always will| ing to trust the people to do the right thing when they are properly informed." "I feel that T have done my part in devising the scheme whereby our people can get the good roads without au extra levy of taxes A.nd my conscience is clear that 1 have performed my task in presenting the plan clearly to the individual voter. > it is now with thom to accept are re ject it." "I have heard but little comment upon the articles of Mr. J. O. Slan-' der in the papers. Those who amuse themselves by reading seem to understand his motives and reason for opposing and plan suggested by myself." "Yes, those who have had the experience know how annoying it is to have a lice-dog constantly knawing at ones heel. Yet, I have not let the barking of this insignificant creature deter mo from performirg a public duty. His yelpings have rather proved an imptus, urging me on to greater and nobler etT >rt to serve the people in a cause that means so much for the welfare and prosperity of every man who lives in the country." "In fact Mr. Norton is proving a great help to me in getting my pi in adopted. Van savs that he has made the issue, and I have not taken the time to disuuto it. The people ^eem to realize that it means either the plan 1 have outlined, or e\se if means the extra levv of 4 mills adv cated by Mr Norton. I have found exactly 7 men in the county who express themselves as advocating the 4 mill extra levy rather than the bond scheme, f doubt seriously I however, if 4 out of this 7 would i vote for such a measure were it put up to them in an election, , T find even the few who are opposed the method I submit (not understanding it the r u^'hly) are very bitter against the Norton plan of increasing their taxes 4 extra mills." "As I have said, it is now "up to" the people. If thev vote this scheme down, 1 irust that a "little Moses'' will appear on the scene and load us out of the wilderness. If he offers a better plan, and one th it does not raise the per pies' taxes; I be^ to asI sure the oublic that I stand ready and willing to follow him. " e nd crso n ? S m a!
