end, should be the slogan cry that
will lead to victory in the battle for
civic and industrial development.
An exchange aptly remarks that

never tries." Try to do something
for Conway. You will feel much
better for having tried, even though
you failed, than not having tried
at all.
The voters of Con way should bear
in mind that the town registration
hook will close on Mondav. Septem
ber l2ih, and that if they have not
already done so they should get
their certificate before that date so
as to be in a position to vote in the
town election should they desire to
do so.
The people of Horry are paying
more careful attention to fruit
growing this year than ever before
We hear of one instance were th<
peach orchard at Myrtle Beach is tc

large number of trees. Anothet
farmer has placed an order for 100
peach and pear trees. We also hea>

adapted to the growth and remarkable

dustry promises to be a very important

people of Horry in the near future
Not since the incorporation of Con
way has its streets and sidewalks
been in such a deplorable condition
as they now are. In some places
gullies and holes are washed in them
making them dangerously unsafe
for pedestrians, especially so during
dark nights when the electric lights
are switched otT. Then, again, there
are others standing in water and
mud making them incubators for
mosquitoes and cesspools of malaria.

the duty of every citizen to demand
better protection against disease and
death breeding places.

Alleged Sale of Cider and Ale Under
the Shadow of a Church.
MrElitor: Why do you suppose
Feutheistone & Co., wants any
more prohibition law? We have
law to prohibit the legal sale of intoxicating
drinks in Horry county,
but it don't prohibit the illegal selling.
There is something sold to
any one that will buy at any and
all times that the seller culls cider
and ale and the buyers and drinkers
say that one quart will make them
swear and stagger and two quarts
will make them strike the first one
that gets in their way with brass
knucks, or draw a pistol on them.
There is a law to prohibit the carrying
of pistols and knucks. But it
don't prohibit. It is a farce. It
