Race Riot in Florida.

Dear Editor: Please allow me a
9mall space in your paper for a few
words as I have not seen anything 1
from Florida in a long time.
We arehaving some hot weather
now. The temperature here last
Thursday was 114 degrees. You
can guess for yourself how hoi it
was.
We have been having hot times
here in the way of a race riot since
the 4th. Jt was especially hot duing
the night of the 4ih. The ne
groes tried to make a row oere ailor
ibe Jeffries-Johnson fight at
Reno, Nevada. They went wild for
awhile. The white people just went
in buucbes and every negro who
said anything about Johnson or
Joffries was knocked down and
whipped. The negroes would get
on the street cars and hurrah for
Johnson and the whites would stop
the cars and with buggy whips and
barrel staves whip them. Some
were killed but not a single white
person was hurt. One white man
knocked down fifteen negroes and
whipped them. They got so bad
that 200 poliecmen were called out
to maintain law and order on the
streets and they got the riot quieted
down about 12 o'clock that night.
But they are fighting right on
and there will be more war here
than there has been in a long time
when they show the moving pictures
of Jeffries and Johnson. The negroes
will all be killed if they at?
tempt to fight, for every one who
looks cross eyed at a white man
now he knocks down, and I tell you
Mr Negro kuows his place.
Old Jax is a big place. There are
seyenty-eight thousand and forty
people in the city limits and twentyfive
thousand outside of them. It is

a two hundred thousand population.
There are from one to two hundred
business houses going up every
month, and they cost all the way
from two thousand to one hundred
thousand dollars a piece. Business
is active here all the time.
Well, I guess I had better ring off
for this time. Let us hear from
some of old Horry's boys and girls.
