You could see them here, there and everywhere. The Sunday trains have been put on for the season. It is now look for the engine when you hear the whistle blow. A large crowd of excursionists from here and points along the road above here went to Myrtle Beaah Sunday on the train. Mr P A Hodges, candidate for Congress from the Sixth District, was in the city several days the lat- I ter part of last week. The side saddle can now bo hung up in the archieves of memory as a priceless tribute to atte bellum custom of glorious Southern womanhood They now ride horseback astraddle. From present indications it ap pears that Horry will be the lighting ground for the congressional contest. As Horry goes so goes the District. f In the approaching political campaign the most interest centres around the contest for legislative i honors. All we have to siy is that the fellow with the longest pole will knock downthe persimmon. Dr McCord and family left for Hodges Saturday where Mrs McCord and children will spjnd the summer, but the Doctor will re turn and re-open his dental parlors on the 13th inst. The seven hundred dollars put into a private sewer system by the Town Council of Conway was to all intents and purposes that much of the people's money thrown away as we understand the system has never been used and the probability is that it never will be. Prof R C Hunter, Superintendent of the Con way City Schools, left f or his home in Prosperity, Newberry county, last Thursday. He intends spending a weeit visiting reiuuvu* and friends and then return to Conway in time to open the summer school for teachers. We hope to live to see the time when llorry will become the greatest fruit producing county in the State. What do you think of the frugal- J ity of the farmer who raises all 1(M cents cotton and then buvs 18 cents moat, $1.00 corn. $1 00 hay and other high priced family and plantation supplies? Yet, such a sight, sad to relate, is almost daily witnessed in Conway. Don't you think that the chances for the prosperity of such a farmer is like Ha I ley's comet?disappearing?-if thov have not already disappeared? The secret. of success in farming is found iu diversification. Raise plenty of hog and hominy and make cotton the surplus or money crop. Ml., J J..L- _ - " ! !
