Conway needs another railroad and it is only a question of a short while when she will have it if her prominent business men will but do their duty. The comet, without a tail, was an object of much interest to many observers last Friday evening from 7:30 to something after ! o'clock. This phenomenon is accounted for on the hypothesis lhat in its elYoit to scoop up the world 11 alley's comet 1 - i . A 1 -t i i. * IJUU lis lail KUOCKea OUl U1 SI^UI The next important move in transportation facilities for Horry is an express service on the through train to Wilmington . The Superintendent of the Southern Ex press Co , has been corresponded with in refer euce to this matter and his office has taken the proposition up with the local agent here, Mr J M McKeithan. We are awaiting the issue with interst. Never before does Conway feel the need of a good live Hoard of Trade with sufficient money at its command to make its work effective, than it does at the present time. This is becoming to be recognized in Conway's business circle and we dare say this will shortly be taken up and ample funds provided to successfully proeeuto a very important enterprise the corning of which means so much for the further do velopment and growth of Conway. The time for the election for May or and Wardens for the town of Conway is coining on apace and it should be remembered that the Constitution provides among other things, the books of registration must be opened ninety days before the election and closed five days before the day of election; that the production of your county registra tion certificate, together with your tax receipt showing that your Slate aud county taxes have ?been ]>aidn are prerequisites to vote at a municipal election. N< no of these provisions have been obeyed in any Conway town electicn, and it will be acting the part of wisdom for us to get right and stay right concerning this matter. The earth did really sweep through the tail of 11 alley's comet during the night of Wednesday, May 1 isth. and continued its fiery journey until after midday Thursday as announced it would do, although the time of this passage was somewhat delayed. There appears to be o difference of opinion among observers as to the exict time when the tail first struck the earth but it b generally agreed that this remark iVUlU |JUOUUIIllv!lV>U M UU u IIJ'.ment between 10 and 11 o'clock at night. 1 n this connection a theory is advanced that the tail of the celestial visitor is hollow and at the moment between the hours mentioned above the western branch o' the tail struck the earln lighting up the eastern skies with brilliant streamers of unsurpassed splendor reaching almost from oi e end of the heavens to t! e other. And as the comet continued its west ware! flight through space and the earth wai enveloped in the eastern branch of the tail a siim.lar phenomenon was again witnessed in the heavens. These phenomena were witess.ed by some people right here in Conwa\ and they were the topic of conver sailor, on inc sireeis somo nours oefore the reports from observatories came in reciting the appearacc of the same phenomena at the time and places stated above. One remarkable feature about the phenomenon is that this old world stood the embrace of the comet's tail better than had been predicted and the world at largo expected, there being not even the faintest evidence of jolt or jar, nor were there any one, as far as known 0mothered by deadly syauogen gas. , A big bowl of Quaker Oats is the best dish you can serve. - ? , w, .s _ Ni. \r- ; Delicious and ? ? nourishing f Good for all ages j i it t and all conditions.
