To Dcliftcjiiffit Subscribers.
This is a request which we make
to every subscriber to this paper,
who is past due for subscription, to
send us in a remittance without
delay, we are obliged to call on those
who owe us to oall and pay the
amount or send it to us through the
mail. By complying with this re
quest they will save us the expense
of making out statements and the
expense of a two cent stunp which
we will have to spend in mailing
each one. Each subscriber will find
on his paper a lable showing the
date to which he has paid, for example,
the lable of John Jones has
the figures there on (! 1-10 and by
this John Jones will understard
that he has paid up until the Gth
month, the first day of the sixth
month, of the present year ldlO. To
find what is duo figure up the time
between the date on your lable and
the present date, and then send us !
the money. All those who fail to
comply with this request will receive
statements from us, and to those
who will not pay, we will not be
able to send the paper to them any
longer.
Some of the advanced astronomers
and scientists of both this and
the Eastern Hemisphere now come
forward with the pleasing miormation
that the tail of Halley's comet
yesterday missed hitting this old
world something over seventeen
million miles.
The woods are full of candidates,
but all seem to be too timid to come
out and let their wauts be known.
Come humble candidate in whose
breast,
A thousand thoughts revolve,
Come with your wishes and fears
oppressed,
And make this last resolve.

In considerable less than a year's
lime there has been a national back
organized here, the capital stock of
a corporation increased to something
over $100,000, a hotel company or
gan'zed with a paid up capital of
$15,000, an ice plant capitalized and J
put in running order, a new tobacco |
warehouse company formed and the
warehouse is now nearirg completion.
Besides to this mu-t be added
the splendid tew store of Burroughs
it Collins c< mpany. now in tincourse
of const! uetio e erection
of stores and dwellings, the elargo
ment of storei and the improvement
of residences?representing an
in vestment anywhere from $25(>,U0?>
to $500,000. Yet notwithstanding
these evidences of prosperity to be
seen on ail sides the calamity howler '
would have us believe that "Conway
has seen its best days."

This much is certain that Conway
voted to issue something like ?!>0,000
in bonds for waterworks and (
sewerage systems and perhaps other 1
improvement.-; that, those bond
have never been placed and the re <
suit is we have none of these publi< '
utilities that contribute so largely to ?
the sanitary conditions of the town 'a
and to the convenience and happiness
of its people. Now, if we arc C
ever to have these public necessities 1
under municipal ownership the work j|

Do farmers eat the proper
sort of food?
The farmer of today buys a" much
larger proportion of the food thnt goes
on the ta ble than he did ten years ago.
It's a go >d thing that this is so because
he has a great variety to select from.
He should, however, use great care
in selecting for the best results in
health and strength.
The widespread tendency in the cii/
to increase the amount of Quaker Oats
eaten is due very largely to the recent
demonstrations oy scientific men that
the Quaker Oats fed man is the man
with greatest physical endurance and
greatest mental vigor.
Farmers should give this subject
careful thought ana should increase
the quantity of Quaker Oats eaten by
themselves, their children and the
farmhands. . |
