THRUSDAY, APRIL 14, 1010.
The Hummer Girl Is preparing for a I
brilli&ut record in t)ie game of hearts
?
With this issue the Herald enters upon
the twenty-fourth year of its age, bright
cheerfyl and happy,
The municipal political pot is boiling
and mayorality bee is buzzing in the bonnet
of many would be candidates.
Our people need not be surprised to
wake up some morning and find a hand
some, up-to-date modern passenger depot
going up, Then will the cup 01' our happiness
be full to overflowing. We are
not permitted to saj more at this time.
But wait aud watch.
It is probable that Sunday train will be
put on again during the summer months,
but \\ liether they will be operated as reg
ular passenger or special trains, orwheth
er they will start from Eirod or Chad
bourn through to Myrtle Beach is yet to
be decided upon. This will largely depend
upon circumstances.
->
The Democratic clans will rally on the
23rd day of April, to arrange for the
coming battle of ballots. It is a foregone
conclusion that tlie same men will be
sent to Columbia, after which the same
announcement will be made, "that we
reaflirm our nliegianue to the time honored
pi iuciples of the Democratic party."
But there is, however, one consolation
i one sweet thought, in'all this, and that is
L for the time being, at least, the people,
and not the 4 pap suckers" will be the
ring masters of the circus.
*
In every contest, both secular and re
ligious, in which Ilorry has so far entered
in competition with the other coun
ties of the State it has invariably come
off victorious proudly hearing the banner
with them. It is a countv which
has never, except in poli'ics, been defeated.
rl his is a glorious recoid and it
is made more glorious because these
triumphs weie tlie result of hard and
intelligent work in fair and open contents.
The latest, victory was that won
at the State B Y P U which met in Lnn
caster last week by the election of Mr J
(J Spivey, one of Conway's most proini
nent and active young businessmen and
?n onl Snril'iv cr'lionl u iivIjov
was elected State President, and Horry
given the banner for the best showing for
the most effective work among the 13 V
P U.

The railroad people have already corn
xnenced to improve the roadbed between
Conway and Myrtle Peach in anticipation
of a heavy summer travel, A gang of
hands are putting dow n heavier rails and
the road bed is to be otherwise grcatlj
strengthened aud improved so that any
train thai can come from Chadbourn to
Conway can go over that portion of the
road with perfect safety and comfi rf.

confidence in it as if we hud got it from
Mr Royals himself, is that the heads ?.t
the Atlantic Coast Lino system is taking
great interest in the development of Myr
tie Beach, ai d pro] oso to make out ot it a
summer resent equal, if rot superior, to
those at JWrigl.tsviilo at Wilmington,
and the Isle of Palms at Charleston. To
accomplish this it is proposed to expen l
money , arrange conveni nt scho rnles,
give reduced rates, improved passenger
service and do whatever other things
which in their jugdment are necessaiy
to make a success of the ol ject which
they have in view.

(Reported for the Horry Herald/
There is a vafct difference between
tlu> ueflibera to statement of facts and
the sickly whining method of forever
making complaints; but it
doesn't require a very close observer
to see the accurateness of the following
principles, and that they are
not long drawn out guesses or humdrum
complaints?just facts:
1. When we are averse to religious
conversation or the company
of those who live in a heavenly
n ! rriimnhore.
%1. When without necessity we
arc not found regularly in attendance
upon the religious services.
3 When we are more concerned
about satisfying conscience (?) than
of honoring Christ in performing
that wtiich is, on our part, a known
duly.
1. When we are more afraid of
being counted 'overmuch righteous'
than of dishonoring Christ.
5. When we take pleasure in
trifling with temptation or to stop j
to plav with sin.
6. When the faults of others become
a preferable matter of censor!
ious conversation rather than a
secret grief and prayer,
7. When an impatient an unforgiving
disposition toward our fellows
ivS in evidence.
8 WLen we confess, but do not
forsake sin; acknowledge, but still
ueglect. our Christian duty.
1) When our cheerfulness is more
characteriseij of unregeneratelevity
than of that holy j ay possessed by
the children of God.
10. When we refuse to examine
ourselves but lay the tape line upon
others.
11. When the pleasures of the
world follow us further into the
Lord's Day than the Holy Christ
and love of the Sabbath follow us into
the week.
Let us open our eyes to these
facts.
When I wrote you last week it
was in my mind to visit Horry the
latter part of next month, but s'ucc
then my churches have said that I
must attend the Southern Baptist
Convention in Baltimore, Md., at
their expense, May 11?1<>, after
which the great Sunday School Convention
in Washington, D. C ,
which- foliows the S B C , and upon
my return home will be engaged
in a revival meeting.
