The bidder at the sale of the Kanawha Lumber Corporation smi.c months ago has refu nd to cumpK with the old of .$<30 000 00 on the ground that he eauuot Lrot a good t tie to the property. The bidder had a leading attorney cm ployed for quite a long while investigating t.he titles which tiioy had to their timber lands in Horry County, and the attorney lias made an adverso report against these titles, and has shown suUieient cause before the United Slates Court why the bidder has not c onpliod. The lie reivers had been absent, from Conway for some time, but Mr Chadbourn is in town this week on business pertaining to the matter. It is said that he has stated that they can (lad a purchaser for the pro perty, and in fact have already found one. E. I*. Pitman Eli as Pick on s Pitman was born March 11th, 1S-M in the fruitful and happy Lake Swamp country of Horry county, S; 0. Christian manhood was to him a birthright, which he dearly treasured, and never sold or stained. *11 e was born and bred with high ideals and he never forsook them. He never sowed wild oats. His iife was a good tree full of good fruit. He was a delightful young man, and he was always young. His virtues were so charming that he won the hand and i heart of Miss El ibeth A. J curette, a Huguenot girl, who was a paragon of sense and beauty, strength and sweetness. To her he was married January 22nd, 18t>7, the Rev. Zidoe Liullook, oiliciaiiug To them were born fourteen children, twelve or whom survive, each a choice product of a Christian home, a shield aud comfort to their widowed mother. He was a farmer, surveyor, teacher. He held many positions of trust and honor un.;l was faithful in them all He was at all times a gentleman. His gentleness made him 1 grpat, and everybody loved him. If the servant of ah. is the greatest of all, he is one of South Carolina's . _ A M 1 -I 1-% greatest men. c or no was tne giau servant of every lifo in distress or need. He never amassed great money, but far better than that, he amassed groat. character. His Dank account, like Ebjtb's, was kept on high. His treasures were laid up in heaven; and there in glory, he awaits us. 11 is home was a paradise of peace and honor, friendship and brotherly love He was the friend of every virtue; the foe of every vice, He died November 11th, 1900, a member of oi l Rehoboth Methodist church and was buried in its hallowed cemetery?long filled with the blessed dust and memories of the pioneosr and saints of Horry county Methodism. L 4L^ J - * i wish mi* reauers oi lliis piper to read Mr Carter's article of last week and see if th<>re is anythiig either expressed or implied in ?it that can be construed to mean what , Mr Dicksou v\ould have you believe To confuse, mislead and befog seems to be the motive. Those who have used the Ripps formula know that Mr Dickson knows nothing of this preparation i by the way he writes. He wid ev- ; en argue with a man who has tried j it and found it satisfactory, that it is no good. I do not question Prof Massay's ability, but who knows his motivo and if the chemist could tell all about this matter why does the government have experimental stations to | experiment with ditTerent fertilizers. | Reports of experiments would bo of1 no interests to us if this was the. case 1 will leavo the readers of this pa per to draw their own conclusions as to who the demagogue is. lie chat knows and knows that he knows is tho farmer that has: tried for himself and if after having this experience he was fool enough to bo side-tracked by some slicker then ho would not bo competent to look after his own affairs. I Have I attempted to keep facts j imm ine larmer? Turn to my advertisement in this paper and see i asked investigation. I stated facts from ray own experience and from the experience of others, and asked those interested to investigate aud see if the statements were true. Does that look like a sucker? Mr Dickson quotes from "Mars Abe" "That you cannot fool all the people all the time." That's so and he will tail to do it, too; The people who try Lipps formula will not be fooled as they have been in the past, bat will investigate their own business and attend to it, too .Lets see if I misquoted Massey. "Hut Lipps tells them that the station oflioers are in league with the fertilizer manufacturers and they believe him rather thau the men who are paid to help them, and they go on year after year enriching a fraud," If Massey has denounced Lipps formula a fraud years ago and still continues to do it and farmers year after year go on enriching a fraud, who do they believe? If the Bible was patented or copyrighted thero would be some rascal standing by to cry fraud. 1 am not talking to the man nor do 1 desire to sell a manual to him that '?s satisfied in his present condition?who is satisfied with prices and his goods have been all wool and a yard wide. Just go on your way rt j doing, brother. Gut to those who find they have been turning the stone to sharpen the axe of others and ?/ant to better their condition, I can show them how. I can but think what would have been the condition of the poor farmer if such men as Massey had not come along to keep them in the mid- j die of the road, and such? noble' 1 characters as George Dickson com ?j our way to warn when danger was near, how circumstances hayo been 1 in our favor. | For experience would seem to teach that the way to successfully oppose trusts is to trade with them - and thereby bring them to terms.
