Big Events Planned?All Sorts of
Pleasures?Cheap Rates.
The forty-first annual state fair, to he
held in Columbia November 1 to t?. promises
to be the best in the history of {lie South
Carolina Agricultural ami Mechanical So
clety. Not only are the premiums otTcreil
larger than ever before, but the officers ot
the organization have arranged a program
that will bring hundreds of visitors from
near by states.
On Saturday, November C, the feature of
the closing day will be the visit of President
Tuft, lie will make an address at the
Pair (Jroumls to several thousand people and
afterward will be taken through the eltyand
shown the principal points of interest.
The premium list issued some time ago
shows thai a number of valuable prizes are
offered for the best display of farm products.
This was one of the features last
year in which there was lively coinpetiti n,
and farmers throughout the state are writing
Secretary Love for informal ion as to
the conditions for entrance.
Another feature last year wag the bench
show. There were so many entries in this
department that the society has decided
to Increase the prizes and classes to be admitted
and a special space has been set
aside for the dogs.
The racing. Of course, will be tip to the

space will be given for the exhibits.
Silver and bronze medals are awarded as
prizes. The students and pupils must get
their admission cards from the officers of
the respective Institutions one week before
the fair.
Military day at the fair also promises to
be largely attended. Prizes have been offered.
