Information has come to us that
one M. G. Parker, convict id at the
last term of court of assault and
bufcery with intent to kill, is now
at largo and is a terror to his coin
munity. There is a sealed sentence
against him in the olliee of the
Clerk of Court, and for months the

for his arrest. The Slier ill' states
that he saw Parker a short time ago

present the Sheriff for neglect of
duty and failure to uphold the
majesty of the law.
A committee of our body has examined

same repaired.
It has come to our attention that
one Rebecca Barnhill, a married
woman, was, since the May term
of court, married to one J. B. Pair
cloth, and that thoy are now living
together as man and wife. We ask
that the Solicitor investigate this
matter and ascertain by what
authority any minister or oHUer in
[lorry county attempts to marry a
man and woman, the woman having
a living husband, and that he take
such stops as may be proper to vindicate
the law,
n We desire to express our thanks]
to your Honor and the other oflicers
of the court for courtesies extended
to the Grand Jury.
Respectfully submitted at Conway,

was lodged in the county jail
hero last Saturday night for safe
keeping He had been acting very
(jueerlv for several days and was
raving when he was taken to the
jail. The circumstances surrounding
his case arc rather peculiar.
The trustees of Home wood school
were without a teacher and wrote
to the agency for one. Spratt was
recommended for the position and
came on and began the school. It
was only a few days before the patrons
of the school became aware
that he was not conducting the
school properly. Ho gave out no
lessons and would of'on rli?m?cc
pupils in the middle of the school
hours. lie also acted very strangely
and he was asked for his resignation.
Oq Saturday afternoon iti
seems that he became unmanagablo
and was brought to Conway and
turned over to the sheriff. He is
said to have come from Fort Mill, S. '
O., and some of his people were communicated
with. Several telegrams
were reeeived asking the authorities
to take care of him until some one
could come after him. He was not
put in jail at first, but was taken
to the Vcroen Hotel. Later on in
the night ho became raving mad and
was at large on the streets for a
time. Later he was placed in a room
at the jail. His case is a very
pitiable one.
