People Should Profit t>y the
Experience of Others.
Cotton ami Cotton Seed Oil News,
Houston, Texas, has six cotton
seed oil m.ils, representing an invest4
. meat of two minion dollars. These
mills last year paid to farmers for
seed $1,260,000 00, and crushed 90,000
ions of seed, yielding oil to the
value of one million dollars.
In addition to the oil these mills
produced three-quarters of a million
dollars worth of cake aud meal, and
over one hundred thousind dollars
worth of hulls, besides 9,000 bales of
linters, worth $135,000 00 making a
grand total of $*1,085,000 00
These six mills gave employment
to 700 people, whose wages amounted
to $200,000.00. This is quite a
, - neat sum to put into circulation in
one city, aud it does not represent
all that these six mills are worth to
Houston by auy means.
Allowing ten per cent, ou the total
investment, and another ten per
cent, for the "wear and tear" of
machinery and buildings, and deducting
the wage outlay and cost of
seed, these throe mills the last season
netted over one hundred thousand
dollars, or about twenty thousand
dollars each.
Surelv cotton seed oil mills are
valuable adjuncts to trade and commerce,
yot a few farmers who farm
with their mouths want to starve
this industry to death by shipping
their seed out of their own county
and S'ate.

who has been visiting his sister,
Mrs A W Tiucks, has returned home
accompanied by Miss Emma Hucks,
who will spend a few months there
visiting relatives and friends.
The writer had the pleasure of
spending a pleasant evening at the
beautiful home of Mr E C Smith
Sunday last.

It is reported that there will be a
picnic at the Salem Baptist church
in the near future for the purpose of
raising funds to complete the new
v church. Push it ahead, boys, and
carry on the good work.

correspondents are asleep or else

The health of our community is
not very good at this writing. Some
few cases of mumps.
It seems that Daisy is on a standstill
just now but we have not lost
faith in her growth vet.

Mr Austin Permenter, who now
works for Bell Bros., spent a recent
Sunday with his parents, Mr and
