UBL1SMK1) RVRHY THURSDAY MORNING i BY CONWAY PUBLISHING CO. 8U BSC Itl l'TION ONE DOLL A It I'KK YKA H. 11, WOODWARD, Kditor THURSDAY. JULY 15, 1909. SOME HOT SHOT. Pull (tie IU'uiu Out of Your Own Eye that Y'ou May More Clearly See llow to Pull tlio Mote Out of Tli> Brother's Eye, For the first time I will say a few words in regard lo the Myrtle lieach excursion. Some folk seem to bo "red hot" about it beiny in existence, claiming it to bo one of the most terrible monsters that has over come to Horry county. Some even say it is worse that the dispensary. Now, my friend, I'd like for you to show' me where it is worse than the dispensary as you know so much about A O ' 1 ' * * it. oureiy you must n ver have Felt the evil clTccts of a dispensary in Horry county, else you are a partaker of the beverage when we had a dispensary near by. 1 know very well how times were. 1 have seen thioeor four boys play more mischief on Saturday evenings on their way from the dispensary after they had well filled their s3'stems with the poor, poisonous stuff than 1 saw all day last Sunday, and it, too, being the 4th of .)uly, spent on the ex- J eursion train ancLat rtlo^iteach. < This Sunday -excursion has enough evil in iJL without trying to compare the fountain of destruction Vffnif.h parrine wilV> ii iVm > < IV uuv " HI V.M illl evil. All Fueh as this, my friend, will have a tendency to bring Ihe dispensary back to Ilorry to rain forth its destructive evils broadcast that even the little boys can reap, and besides 1 don't think any of you bad any just authority in calling the train the "Devil's Flying Angel" nor speak of its going to "Hell", not that the train would go to hell at all, but it would stop some one's soul in hell if some of those smart fellows who seem to know so much about it could grasp the throttle as engineer, but we are thankful, after what we have seen, skilled hands as well as trained brains handle the thiottle. Let mo tell, you, my dear fiiend, if you get to hell you will never find it hko the Atlanlantic ocean. neiii*>r will you see as pleasant looking things to take Sunday nleasure trina :?? A i f . ? ? - - mu vuv/? V/ UH^y /I J ^ C is furnishing Horry county now-adays. It may seem to some folk a>. they say, "that some peoplo are not going to hell as fast as they want to", but those who use such silly expressions ought to have better ideas to place before the reading public, as we all know that noexisting mortal desire to go to hell. One correspondent says "it is wrong to ride down to the beach on Sunday." I 'd like for him to give us proof if it is any more sin to ride to the beach than anwhereelse. Surely he must not have been to Myrtle beach. I would like to inform him that he will have to walk to the beach if he gets there, or else make other arrangements if he visits Myrtle Beach via Conway, Coast and Western Railway. And, again, 1 want to call Irs attention to the fact that we don't have to pay 50 cents for a bathing suit, so we are twenty-live cents better oil than he thought for. Another correspondent says: "The nible says pray without ceasing". What a duty this is! We should all do more of this than what we really do. 1 agree with him in this, but there are as imnortant, ttinirc .... _ V IV/ I U9 to pray for as anything regards to the Sunday train, If the young girls and boys of your community can't be controlled as to going on the Myrtle ueach excursion, then I say to you, let them go, "as the Bible says, "Where your treasures there will your heart be also?St Luke xxii:HY, 1 don't care so much about the Sunday train, myself, but can't see how it is any worse than any oth( r passenger train. If Sunday trains are such a curse, why is it that such places where trains run almost, siil the time as the larger cities of our country don't sink? Is it just the goodness of God? or is it right that they should run to supply the wan's and needs of a growing and thriving population as is theirs? There is but little accommodation here as to passenger ser /ice on the A. C. L and if some people knew that it would be made equal to the need and growing demand of the public they would be moral and would oppose it. The Sunday excursion is not so much a necessity to Horry county as is the double daily passenger service that has toen so intelligently asked for. If the Kuilroad Commission lias the power to grant us this f-ervLe which we so much need, how could they ever f eo another campaign in Horry asking her support if liny ded't serve us as we ask them them to? l ow about it gentlem n? Now, in conclusion, will say thai I don't favor any controversy wnat ever, and it is not my aim to indulge in anythi g of tl e kind, and hope no one will rase any insult at what 1 have said.
