of industry for drones.
If we ever expect to see Conway
grow and prosper we must work to
that end.
Thank you, Messrs Commissioners,
for your ruling in referenco to
the double daily passenger service.
The Civic League has not yet been
organized and the indications art
that the Friday Afternoon Club has
u gone where the woodbine twineth."
In the meantime our streets and
avenues are unimproved and the
grass and the weeds and the sand
spur occupy the places that should
be given to flowers and shrubs and
evergreens.
For the last two or three weeks
the columns of tho llorfild Imvn h?nn
crowded with articles bearing on the
Sunday train, both pro and con, almost
to the exclusion of other matter.
To such an extent has it been
carried on that some of our most
esteemed patrons are beginning to
kick, and inasmuch as these communications
can neither stop the running
cf these trains or cause them
to run we must hereafter decline to
publish articles bearing on this subject.
It is a settled fact that the
railroad company will operate the
trains as long as it pays and when it
ceases to do so the trains will be
taken olf. This is the long and
short of the whole matter.
The success in having the daih
double passenger service put 01
shows what united effort and a little
energy will accomplish when well
directed and oersevered in Om
demands should be just and reason
able and based on sound business
propositions. It is but just and
reasonable that Conway be giver
better passenger accommodations
The operation of tho increased passenger
service demands this. Tin
present arrangement of dumping

Y to the freight depot is to say the
least of it a rellection upon the enterprise
and progress of Conway
No other town the size of Conway
with its large volume of bnsiness
and enterprise would have submitted
so long to the imposition as
we have done and we should make
up our minds that this imposition
must cease.
Perhaps the greatest possibility
.of Horry just now lies in the truck
industry and the development of
its fruit interests. Already Horry
berries have won an enviable reputation
among the lovers of strawb)rries
in the North and there is no
reason why the peach should not
make Horry famous, just as the
berry has done, except it be the fail
ure of the piople themselves to take
advantage of the opportunities that
soil, climate and conditions have
given them. That peaches can be
successfully grown in Horry has
been practically demonstrated by
B-urroughs & Collins Co , who have
a large orchard of young tress in
full fruit at Myrtle Beach. It is

crop in tho famous peach section of
the State is almost if not (juite a
total failure this year, tho Myrtle
neach trees were loaded with sound,
juicy and delicious fruit almost to
the breaking point. As far as we
were able to observe the fruit was
soild, there being no windfall and
were without a blemish of any kind,
which goes to show that both our
soil and climate are specially adapted
for the successful growth and
development of a perfect peach.
Our infoi ination is that that ii
not the only section of the count\
where experiments with the peacl
have been made. Peaches have beer
successfully grown in the Home
wood Colony section and in various
other sections and whenever put 01
the local market have always brough
remunerative prices.
