All along through the berry season
rvhich is now drawing to a close, the
llerald lias persistently called attention to
he fact that tho berries grown around
'Jonway commanded a more ready sale
it higher prices in the Northern markets
lian those grown elsewhere. Those who
ltd not know, or thought t.hey knew when
n reality they did not thought the llerald
ivhh talking through its hat and was only
playing to tho grand stand. Hut the experience
of the growers hcrenbouts compared
with that of the growers elsewhere,
vindicates the Herald in the sta'mnent. '
There is a reason for this and it is he u>iuing
to bo generally known and appreciated.
10 much so that it is attract! ig th a t lion
in other sections and other Stales
who are now personally investigating it.
It has keen found that there is a section
of country around Conway especially
adapted to the growth and development
of the Klondike variety. This is conceded
to be the largest and most delicious berry
that readies the Northern marktt and
consequently always sells it fancy piie.es.
To illustrate, a grower infc rmod us that
it takes about three crates of thrity two

bring us much money us one crate ol
the same number of ?|iiarts, of the Klondike,
while the cost of producing and
maketing is no more than the Thompson,
with the exception that the Klondike re
quires a little more fertilizer than tin
other varieties. Experiments have been
made with this plant outside of tin* section
referred toas high up as Chadbourn but
they have been failures and the results
unsatisfactory, Out information is that
some large growers are now investigating
lands around Conway with a view
of purchasing, improving them and oper
atlng large strawberry farms. Tills, we
believe, sums up tho situation as it really
exists, and we will soon see what we
shall see.
Deafness Cannot t>c Cured
by local application, as they cannot, reach
the diseased portion of the ear. T here is
only one way to cure deafness, and that
Is by constitutional remedies. Deafness
Is caused by an inflamed condition of the
mucons lining of tue Eustachian Tube.
When this tube is inflamed you have a
rumbling sound or Imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed, Deafness is the
result, and unless the Inllamation can be
taken out and this tube restored to its
normal condition, hearing will he destroyed
forever; nine cases out of ten are
caused by Catarrah, which is nothing but
an Inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces.
We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of Deafness (caused by Catarrh)

Tornado at Shell.
A gentleman from the Shell section of
the county, who was in the city last Friday,
informs the Herald that a terrific
wind storm passed through that section
last Thursday night between dark and
inid night leaving destruction in its wake,
it was accompanied by a heavy down pour
of rain, in fact it is said to have been the
heaviest rainfall witressed there in many
a year, and low places were inundated,
and branches and creeks overflowed their
hanks. At one time during the life of
the storni the wind reached (cyclonic pro
portions and trees were uprooted and
fences, barns and other outbuildings demolished.
Fortunately no fatalities to
man or beast, which is remarkable considering
the violence of the storm.
