Durham, (N. C.) Sun. A large audience greeted Miss Doak at the Opera House last night in her first appearance siuce her return from Paris, where she has studied two years under Jean De Reszhe. Her improvement has been nothing short of phenomenal. The opening numbers from" Carmen" placed the singer eurapport with the audience. The operatic selections were beautifully given and prove that Miss Doak's ultimate success will doubtless lie in that direction.?Chattanooga Times. Miss Saba Doak, the celebrated soprano, was greeted with a very appreciative audience. Miss Doak has a grand voice. It weighs about 1400 lbs and cost $155. It is a fitting monument of this excellent young man. It was the privilege of the writer to know him well and it gives me pleasure to testify to his noble character. He always impressed me as a Christian gentleman and what higher tribute can be paid any man? Jimmie is dead but his memory lives to bless his friends. A. L. Proctor. i Mrs Will Covington, ofBoardraan, N. C., is visiting Miss Belle Powell of Conway. Probate Judge Holt, of Conway stopped over in Mullins Tuesday on his way back home from Columbia. Mr Ilolt is an enthusiastic son of the Independent Republic, and seems to have great faith in the future of his county. He reports the strawberry crop down his way looking well and says that the shipments will be going out in a few days.
