Wxt |\om? gtalil, Bntnred at the Post OfDce at Conwy8. , Second Class Mall Matter. * UUL1S11KD KVKHY TIIUHSDAY MORNING | BY CONWAY PUBLISHING <<>. SUBSCRIPTION ONK DOLLAR I'KIt YKA 1 ( H, H, WOODWARD, Keillor THURSDAY. APRIL 8, 1000. , The day has passed, if it ever ex- i isted, when one man carried Horry around in his vest pocket to be used in furtherance of his own will. In anticipation of a heavy shipment of berries from this and other points along the road, a heavy coal i burner has been put on for the sea- 1 son at least. Some shipments have already been made but the returns | have not yet been received and it is notcletinitely known whether not the prices are satisfactory. The crop is , a record breaker, the berries large, and the flavor unusually fino. The growers are hopeful and have the situation well in hand. It now cornos to our cars that soveral gentlemen of Conway have organized a joint stock company for the purpose of manufacturing ice. It is further said the plant will be of the best and latest improved_und every thing about Jit t:H bo first ^ 1 . mi , ciivst?. artesian water win uc i ^^-V?e~d thus insuring the purity and consequence healthfulnoss of its products. We are not at liberty just now to mention names for the reason that the plans are not yet i fully matured, but anyhow it may ! be put down for a certainty that | Conway will have an ico plant at no j distant date. | Our information is that the people of Horry are alive to the im portauso of good public roads. They have long felt the need of them but never before has such a wide spread interest been taken in the subject of road making as there uow is, It is being discussed in almost i every section and the unanimous | opinion seems to be that the time j is now hero when something practi- I cal must be done toward the im- ' provemeut of the public highways of Horry. They feel that in this matter tbey nave too long oeon m different to the importance of having good roads and are now determined to do all they can to secure them. Somo of the people at least do not object to being taxed, and some go even further and have expressed a willingness to supplement that tax with a reasonable amount, for the improvement of tho roads and bridges, the only qualification they insist upon is that the money so raised shall be judiciously and economically expended on the roads and not diverted to the use of the other branches of government. Beware of Ointments for Catarrh that Contain Mercury as mercury will surely destroy the sense of smell and completely derange the whole system when entering it through the mucous surfaces. Such articles should never bo usod except on prescriptions from reputable physicians, as the damage they will do are tenfold to the good you can possibly derive from them. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F J Cheney & Co., Toledo, Ohio., contains no mercury, and is taken internally, acting directly upon the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. In buying Hall's Catarrh Cure be sure you get the genuine. It is taken internally and made in Toledo, Ohio, by F J Cheney & Co. Testimonials free, Sold by all Druggists. Price 75c. per bottle. Take Hall's Family Pills for constipation. Mr Sam Cook is due the thanks, and they are hereby tendered, of a long suffering people for his strict enforcement of the town ordinance prohibiting stock from running at large. In the enforcement of this ordinance Mr Cook does not regard race, color or previous condition of servitude. With him it is not a question of ownership, it is sufficient for him to know that the stock is running at large. He has made a courageous and efficient officer, discharging his duty without fear or favor and we take pleasure in commending hint for doing so. ? ???^6 Swept Over Nlajrara.
