For several years the patrons of
Hickory Grove school have used a
very small and uncomfortable building
for school purples. The number
of children in the district and
progress along different lines really
demanded a larger building.
A few mouths ago the trustees
began the work for a new building
and as a result of their etTorts they
have a beautiful house 24x40 made
of good material. Miss Sue Wavd
was employed to teach ten days,
making an enrollm ?nt of sixty-seven.
It seems that Miss Ward gave excellent
satisfaction and has been
asked <to take the school for another
term.
Following the closing of the school
a dox supper was given Saturday
night, March Oth, for the benefit of
the school, and long before the hour
for beginning a large crowd of people
had gathered.
Ms Anderson, one of the trustees,
cafred the house to order, and introduced
Superintendent of Education
Brown, who spoke of the educational
interest, which seemed to be in a
growing condition in that section.
Following his address to the people,
the selling of the boxes and the
nice cake by Mr Daniel Hardee who
sold them fast and for good prices.
From the sale of the boxes and cakes
the school realized about $37 00.
When the Hickory Grove school
building is completed, it will bo one
among the best school buildings in
the county. We hope those people
will continue to cultivate the educational
interest there now.

has been spending a few days with
relatives and friends at this place,
and while down hero went over and
spent a day in Conwav. Her coming
was appreciated by many and
we will be pleased to see her come
again.
Rev W M Martin preached a very
interesting sermon here last Sunday.

a large congregation Sunday, the
7th. Among those visiting from a
distance were Misses Louise Bullock
and Esther Borum.
After a successful term taught by
Mr G 0 Gore our school at Good
Hope came to a close on Friday last.
Mr Gore's work was greatly appreciated,
and we would be glad to
have him here again. He left on
Monday's train for Chad bourn.

Obituary.
Died at bis home on Lake swamp
February 28ih, 1909, Mr Hugh W
Johnson, in the 59th year of his age.
He farmed as a means of support.
He joined the Methodist chnron at
Rehoboth in early life and remaiued
a member of the same till the day of
his death. For abouteight weeks he
suffered severe pain in his head
caused by a rising in his head, For
about four days before his death ho
was almost crazed with Ihe pain
His remains were laid away to rest
on the day following in the Rohoboth
cemetery in tno presence of a
host of relatives and friends. The
funeral services wore conducted by
the Rev Asbury McCracken. There
were a large crowd present to witness
the last service reuderod to the
deceased friend and neighbor on
'his esirth. He linivoe n. wiH/uv
three sous, four daughters, a father,
oue brother, two sisters and a host
of relatives and friends to mourn
his departure. We m >urn not us
tho6? bavin# no hopo for we hope
our loss is his eternal gain. May
God in his infinite love, wisdom and
goodness care for and bless the bereaved
ones who are left behind.

life, hut without avail for the Lord
knew best and took her away to
live with him in that bright world
above. May tho sadness of those
who weep for their loved one find
in their hearts the truth of Job,
"the Lord giyeth and the Lord has
taken away dear Hat tie. She leaves
her husband and one child
and mother, three sisters and four
brothers and a host of friends to
mourn their loss, but their loss is
her eternal gain.
Dear Hattie from us gone,
A place made vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled, .
God in his wisdom has recalled |
The boon his love has given.
And though her body slumbers here
The soul is safe in heaven.
Her body was laid to rest on the
25th ult at Bayboro burying ground
to await the resurrection morn
Her funeral was preached by the
Rev H B Roberts.
