The ladies of the Presbyterian
church have painted the intoriorof
the church and it now has a cool
aud inviting appearance in its new
coat of paint. They tried to get a
journeyman to do the work but the
price of the job was away beyond
the limit of their funds, and rather
than go in debt for tho work, with
no immediate prospects for paying
for the same, they decided to do the
work themselves. So last Monday
the lady members of the congregation
met at tho church and with
aprons and other means of protection
they went to work, and although
novices in handling a paint
(?) brush, they did tho work well.
Other decided improvements to the
interior of the church are contemplated
and these will no doubt be
shortly undertaken.

Georgetown, Fob. 22.? A party of
gentlemen from Marion, consisting
of Messrs j. L, Wheeler, Marvin
Davis and Henry Buck, arrived in
the city a few days ago in their
handsome naphtha launch, the
"Temiskaming," and after spending
a short time in the c ty went on over
to North Island. It has since
been learned that these gentlemen
are negotiating a deal with oen E.
P. Alexander for the purchase of
North and South Islands, which will
bo converted into hunting preserve. I
Aside from the value of these
islands as a game preserve, being
situated as they are unequal, compared
with any, as a health resort,
in the State. Thev are also convenient
to tho city, being about 15 m?w I
from dock to dock, and in close
connection with both rail and water
transportation. These islands will
be improved, it is understood, by
the purchasers, and handsome summer
homes erected on them. It is
rumored the nrice paid was $125,000,
and inasmuch as this sum has
been invested in this property, no
doubt the fortunate owners will
make vast improvements on these
islands, and it will bo valuable property
in the course of a short while.

Mullins Items.
Mullins, Feb. 22.?Shocky Mathis,
a negro about50 years of ago, claiming
Lynchburg as his home, was
run over and killed by a freight
train last Saturday- He attempted
to board che cab just as the train
was pulling out of Mullins, missed
his hold and fell, the wheels passing
over his right leg, cutting it oil at
the knee. He lived nearly two hours
after the accident.
Chief of Police Holloway arrested
a negro, Aleck Mitchell, Sunday, on
suspicion. When the negro was examined
he had concealed on his person
a number of gold and silver
watches, chains, cuff buttons, etc,
He hailed from Georgetown.
The fox hunting crowd, who spent
laH week i n Horry, have returned
and report a glorious time. There
are plenty of foxes over there, and
the splendid pack of hounds made it
very interesting.
