was held in tho Methodist

Mover before have wo had thv
pleasure of having so many noble
Christian workers in our little town.
The meeting was opened with devotional
exercises by Rev G. F.
Stanley.
President Paul Quattlebaum, in
i.^s usual happy style gave and excellent
address, urging the ollicors
and workers to do more in tho future
than in the past, Let us be up
and doing. Horry got the banner
la it year, let us hold it this year,
lint we will have to work to keep
i t.
The report of the secretary, Mrs
M. S. Buck, showed progress along
every lino of the work. Mrs Buck,
in her charming manner won all
hearts present.
The Treasurer, Mr J. C. Spivey
was unavoidably detained at homo,
so Mr Quattlebaum read his report.
Mr J. C. Bryant, superintendent
of tho Methodist Sunday school extended
a cordial welcome to all.
The doors of the town are open and
Loris feels honored to have so many
Christian men aud fair women in
our town.
Enrollment of delegates took but
a short time, and then appointment
of committees and assignment of
homes. Then there was a general
nanusnaking ana overyoouy made
lo vd welcome.
Friday evening Mr Robert W.
Floyd conducted the song service
with Mrj L>. J. Butler, organist.
At 7:15 Miss Vandiver, in her own
sweet way gave us an excellent talk
on ''From the cradle to the adult
classes", giving us some lovely
, - thoughts, we trust will blossom into
noble deeds in the near future.
Round table teachers and teaching
was conducted by Mr Quattlebaum.
Next on the program was Mr J.
M, Way, General Secretary, He
took for his theme, "World wide
Sunday school movement." Mr Way
is an earnest, forceful speaker and
is thoroughly alive with his subject.
He gave several excellent
talks during the meeting.
Saturday a, m, devotional exercises
were conducted by Rev L?. E.
Gibson, Miss McNeill as organist.
The home department wat taken
up by Mr Quattlebaum.
Miss Vandiver, in Miss Langs
ston's absence, gave us a splendid
talk on the Cradle Roll.
Mrs Buck read a very interesting
tumor on the beginners.

Mrs Hadley, in her unassuming,
lovely way look up the primary
grades, urging that we build the
foundation of our work strong so
that the other work may stand tirm.
Mr W. A. Prince gave us a shorl
talk on Lho use of the black board.
Mr Way then gave us an address
oioJjhe importance of statisticos,
Miss Vandiver took up the primary
teacher. Mr Way, duties of the
county aud township officers, anc
both handled their subjects with
their usual skill.
A neat sum was pledged tor this
good work by Sunday schools anc
individuals.
Sunday morning Mr Way gave ?
most stirring address, his subjeel
being "Boys."
This has been a wonderful meet
ing. The churches have been streng
thened and have been drawn closet
together.
We will endeavor to bring the
banner home with us from Orange

We, the Horry delegation, have
lot done anything in the way of

solicitors hero stated it could not
be done on account of interstate

Anothor matter of increasing
Horry's delegation in the legislature
I probed out, and find out that
?ve will have no chance at this till
after the next census of the United
States next year. After this the
General Assembly will make a redistribution
of members and we will,
I am sure, get another.
There will be some important
measures before the house this week.
The lien law will come up. The
amended high school law and a bill
to lengthen rural schools running
less than five months in tho year.
1 also think compulsory education
will come and prohibition question.

is incorrect as regards myself.
There is much divided sentiments
in regard to this law, A good mauy
say tho Cary-Cothran law is all we
need, and others say nothing but
State wide prohibition.
A great feature for a new man
here, was an oyster supper reception
given by the faculty of the State
University. Well, you know that I
ate ail that was in sight, as f have a
special affinity for oysters. Afterwards
we had toast addressee by
President Moore, of the college, who
called on several others, among
whom were. Lout- Gov. McLeod,
Senator Graydon, Col Spivey, who
turned it over to Mr H.ydrick, of
Spartanburg, then came State Superintendent
Sworinger. It was a
great crowd and time.
The most distinguished crowd,
though, I suppose, was at the Governor's
reception the next night.
All otlicials of State and Chief Justices,
all the Legislature, or most
of them and ladies in abundance,
so clever. Cake, coffee and punch
in abundance, then a smoker. ' I
think tho reception at the university
possibly raent an inducement to
got a hearly appropriation, and the
governor, you know, is wanting a
new mansion. It does not appear
to me that somo people know anything
about the coming of money

forget the toiling masses, who arc
burdened under existing eonditions
to keep food and raiment, say
ing nothing of paying taxes to run
an extravagant government.

spent last Saturday night and Sunday
with her parents at Allen.
The liev Mr White preached a
very interesting sermon at Cool
Spring Sunday afternoon. I think

Mr and Mrs J. M. Tyler spent
Saturday night with Mr Casque,
Miss Georgia Tyler, of Alien, is
spending this week at Aynor with

are completed it will be a beautiful

learned, Mr Moulton and family will
make their home during the winters.

begin business in one of the stores
of llul L. Buck Company, and they
will sell furniture and house furnishing
^oods for eash and on the installment
plan. They are good business
men and should succeed.
The losing train of the Eddy
Lake and Northern railroad was
wrecked near the residence of 11.
C Cannon on Thursday of last week.
The train ran over a cow that was
standing on the track The locomotive
never left the track, but six
log cars heavily loaded with logs
were derailed and practically destroyed.
None of the crew were injured.
\V L. Bryan spent some time at
his home at Little River last week.
Some low designing person was
guilty of a criminal act last Thursday
night which might have caused
loss of life had the facts not been
discovered before hand. A locomotive
engine of the Kanawha Lumber
Corporation is left at night in the
yards across the river, and is started
up before day tho next morning
on its daily trip to tiie timber woods
The engineer, last Thursday morning,
happened to look around tho
engine before turning on the steam,
and discovered that the nuts and
other fixtures holding the driving
rod 011 one side in place had been
stolen and the driving rod was looso
and resting on the ground. Other
parts of the engine were found missing,
and if thev had attempted to
start the engine in its condition
serious trouble would have been tho
result. As It was the timber train
has been held up until the repair
parts should be ordered from the
factory. There is no clue to the
perpetrator, hue it is supposed that
it is a piece of spite work cn the
part of some discharged employee.

tho Methodist Sunday school; Mrs

from the Baptist and Mrs A. S.
Douk from tho Presbyterian. Miss
Vandiver also addressed a oro.vd of
Sunday school workers at Homewood
Sunday night.
