History of the Case.
The Bucks Company's prosecution
of the officiitlH of the Federation he- j
Ran in August, 1 907. The original
notion was a tosrt case wherein 1
was sought to enjoin the lai>or un
ions from using the "unfair" and
"we don't patronize" lists in their
fight against firms and individuals.
Justice Gould, of tihe Supreme Court
of the District of Columbia, hened
an Injunction whicn was later made
permanent, forbidding the publication
of the company's name in t.hDsc
President Or*omi>ors in an editorial
in "The Fedorutionisl" of last January,
claimed that the labor organizations
had a right to advise th' 1 r
members not to patronize certain
firms thai was not friendly to laboi
organizations, and made known his
tent ion not to obey the Court's order
contending that the injunction
issued was in derogation uf the
rights < f labor and thi> press and an
a huso of the injunctive power of the
Count
Co i lavs, Mitchell and Morrison
subsequently wore cited for contempt
and this phase of the case has been
before the Court for many months
the proceedings taking the form of
a hearing of testimony before an
examiner and many arguments.

RARE WASHINGTON RHL1C.
Only One Known to Exist of Six Mod;d
lions Mudc for Lafayette.
Mrs. F. Luis Mora of New York
city, owns a Washington relic which,
bo far as Is known, Is the only one of
Its kind In existence. It Is one of the
six medallions which were made to
ordor for General Lafayette.
Before Lafayette took leave of the
officers of his staff, says the Circle,
ho had those medallions made In
Paris, and presented them to the six
ofllcers Immediately under htm. The
five others have disappeared and may
nave been destroyed. The one in
Mrs. Mora's possession Is made of
cut glass hound by a heavy brim of
solid gold, to which Is attached a
gold ring by which It may be suspended.
Between the two layers of
glass Is a beautifully modelled head
of Washington in plaster, silvered.
On the reverse Is the Inscription
"Desproz, Rue des Recolets No. 2. a
Paris Waslngton." Note the omission
of the letter "h" in Washington.
The medallion came into Mrs.
Mora's possession through her great
grandfather, Lewis Compton, to
whom it was presented soon after
tho Revolutionary war.

From the fact that Bmnllpox w hich

the rains set In, it has been argued
that the germs are carried in the air.
An additional circumstance which
has the samo apparent significance
Is reported from London. Hospital

Thames below the city. It has been
noticed that new cases break out
morn frequently on the shore to
which the wind blows than on the
other side.

W oman Who Gambles.
Moralists say that the emotion of
Earning; makes women ugly. It is
not necessary to take the word of the
moralists for that. Gaming does not
make women ugly, it unmasks them,
and it is of that that they must be
warned. It is natural enough, since
they play passionately, and in playing
they forget the world and their
faces. So much the worse for those
who do as Jezebel. Jean I^orrain
has left terrible pictures of old painted
faces, the natural condition of
which is revealed by the excitement
of play.
The Postage Stamp Province.
Manitoba, which has long been
dubbed the "Postage Stamp Province,"
will soon be in a position to
lose her nickname. According to
Sir Wilfred I^aurler's statement In
the I>omtnion House of Commons,
Manitoba, wnlch has hitherto been
hemmed In on every side and has, at
least on the map, appeared to deserve
the nickname she has borne,
is at last to be allowed to expand and
actuallv to reach the seaboard.
TTm! Sense of Duty
A sense of duty pursues us ever.
It is omnipresent like the Deity. If
we take to ourselves wings of the
morning and dwell In the uttermost
parts of the sea, duty performed or
duly violated, Is still with us. for our
happiness or our misery. If we say
the darkness shall cover us In the
darkness as in the light our obligations
are with us yet.?Daniel Webster.
Paragon-Making Golf.

Washington, I>oc. 1 9.?That Sentor

by the following article which
appears in one of the Washington (

"All these stories about Senator <
