STRUCK WITH A BRICK.
Assault Made ou Young lady by Unknown
Person.
Florence, November 17.?Miss Hes
sie Shackleford, the sixteeu-year-o' 1
daughter of af.r and Mrs. Charles \V.
Shakleford, was struck lu the heat!
with a brick In the hands of some unknown
person almost directly In the
rront or tno American iooacco Company's
plant in North Dargon street
last night, and is suffering very much
from the wound.
Miss Shackleford is employed as
cashier at the dry goods store of Geo.
M. McCown, in East Evans street. It
was while ou her way home fro*p her
daily duties that she was assaulted.
The assault was committfj^fca one
of the most frequented thorou^nifarov,
of the city, almost directly under an
electric arc light and within lit y
yards of her father's store.
If the highwayman or foot pad
could he run down it would go hard
with him. This is one of the boldest
holdups that has ever been made in
this city.
Tact is the leaven that saves flattery
from falling flat.
Some people would rather tell the
truth than be popular.
