Referring to a report being eircu lated against you to the etteet that the committee of the (Jrand Jury investigating your accounts had re ported that you had misappropriated funds, wish to say that I, as a member of the committee, think that our report on these matters is so clear that the subject could not be misunderstood by any one giving care iui attention to the text of the* repot t. The commit too in that report, did not make any charge o f misap'prop rialion or shortage of funds, hut emphasized the fact that receipts for funds which the books indicated had been paid out should al ways be in the ollice. Yours respectfully, V A MJRIiOlKilfS. .lordnnvillo stems. The write up of TTorry by M James Henry Itico Jr , which re cently appeared in the News and Courier, was very good and all I Jerry The health of the community is very good. People are having plenty of rain and good crops. Tobacco curing will soon begin. There was a fish fry given at Hughes handing on Hi tile IVe Deo, June hlli, Mr and Mrs W II Cannon, of Conway, attended the fish fry and report a plenty of fish, bread, cake, pies, to spare and every one ate all lie could and several boxes and bas kots were not opened. We had plenty of music furnished by Messrs Arch Martin and others. The can didates don't know what they missed by not being there, I wonder whore they were? Cone fishing, I guess. C. Voter. first Cotton Illnont. mi.~ n ? auo iirso conon bloom lo reach the Herald olliop this summer was received last Monday from the farm of Mr J. Ii. Long, he having gath ered it from his cotton Held on June i\ 7th, 1908. Mr Long?i./ 'one of llor <.( ry's most prosperous farmers' and |< his lands, are well cultivated and u produce the finest crops with the p least amount of labor. p' The second cotton bloom for the y year 11)08, reached the oil ice last Tuesday from the farm of Ii A CM Lowrimore, near Dongola, S. C. This bloom was picked from the field of Mr Lowrimore on June 7ih. ;s and gathered on the same day that, the one was picked 011 the farm of J RLong. Mr Long's, however, was jr, the first to reach the Herald office Miss Marjorie Quattlebaum is home from college spending her va J. cation with her parents, Col and Mrs C P Quattlebaum, Co mi PIP Adrian. The farmers aro making good use of these fair days. It has been a bad spring to get a stand of anything in this section on account of insects. Tobacco curing will soon boon hand. Tobacco is sorry this time. It has but toned out small and is nearly a failure. Marvin Uooth happened to a serious accident recently by his mule running away and breaking his leg. Tho young men of this community socio to have bad luck by accidents. It has not been but a short time since Hro ky Dormau was killed by Kanawha Lumber Corp 'ration's logging train. Later Dave llurrol was badly hurt while in the employment of tho same concern. The candidates seem 1o ho plentiful. Most everybody can vote for some of his kin folks for supervisor in the lirst primary. We are glad to see Mr \V, .). Sessions out for ShorilV. lie is one of those good men I guess Mr Floyd did not meet him while in town. 1 think the people in this section are in favor of making a change in som > of the cilices. Wo arc ail glad to sic .). N. Jen rot to out for treasurer. Ho is one of our old homo boys, so we will have to stick to hini. The home boys are like our home paper. II differs not as to how many papers we got when at the p >stollice, the lirst to look ovei is our old home paper, the Herald. We are in favof home as long as home is right. K T Cool Spring The health of our people is very good at present. Crops are improving*. Since it. luis been so warm the insects have been playing havoc with the corn in the bottom lands. A good many went to Conway Friday on the excursion from hero and t he crowd was very quite and orderly, and with few exceptions very good looking. We don't think there was very much booze on hand, but wo a''e told some was lost by mis take. Wo think it would ho well on such occasions to label bottles in plain letters, "Class handle with Care." We had one candidate aboard and he did not lose much time in shaking hands with the boys. We would like to boost some of the. boys but we dont think it f.or to the other candidates who have paid tbcir money Our people are too busy to visit much now, farmer. Dcatli of Ittrs l\\. /\\. I am sW'relyj grateful to my many friends ;h r their lova) upport in the lastehniion and I hold no malieo whatever against those who "honestly" o\>posed me. Indeed I preached indopcndonce in politic^, and I shall not fail out with anyone for, taking my own advice. Heretofore I lijive been so busy on tiio farm that 1 could simply take an occasional excursion into the public Held and deliver a passing shot in our political battles, but I nm nmk ii g arrangements, after this year, t > give more time and iTibor to County, ! Stale and national politics, and n r(tinirj voters and ring-tailed politi-, cians can sit up and take notice accordingly. The country is full of common politicians who are out for filthy lucre, and who, instead of moulding public opinion, simply drift along like rot ten wood after the political current of the hour; but t he Hold is white for independent, constructive Statesmanship. I The classes always have their ( , _*ji ? - * - - ii^'ins euner elected or hired to look oul Tor their .special affairs; hut i the masses, with amazing c red nitty, have always left, their interests in the hands of their represent all res, who omelimes fofget lllOpoWOTfthfti lifted them-up.
