I 0 VOL XXII. mmmmm??mm A (iood SiijrflTCfttloti. The writer is uot a politician, neither has ho ever hold any public office, but. he does feel a deep inter est in the welfare and prosperity of Ilorry county. This explains wiiy J write and make the following observations: For the past two years our county has had a delegation in the General Assembly that any county could wftit boast of with pride. Probably it has never been surpassed by any delegation in the history of our "Republic." It occurs to me that wo should endeavor to maintain this standard. To do this we cannot afford to lose, two of these members. We must retain either, Mr Derham or Col Spivey in the House. Wo understand thiit. Sonnt.ni1 Unll!fln? ...ill ? - i*wiuuujr vv in liUl stand for reelection. It is also announced that neither Mr Spivey or Mr Derham will again enter the race for Representative, but is altogether probable that both will be candidates for the Senate. This I submit will bo unfortunate indeed. Why not let us look at this from the county's standpoint and retain the services of both these gentlemen, and placo them where they logically belong and where we need them most? Mr Spivey has served his two terms (usually allowed bv custom) in the House and justly doservcs promotion. IIo has made an excellent representative, is very popular, commands ttie respect of all members of the legislature, and has done much in many ways for the county. With a gentleman of his standing in the Senate, he would further advance the interest of the county he has worked so faithfully to upbuild- 1 take it that there will be no further light made on account of his efforts in the new court house and jad, but that all now commend him highly for his services. Mr Derham has served but one term in the House and should bo re turned practically without opposition Send along with him a young man that may be trained for a future Heatesman. In the meantime lets support Mr Ellerbe for Congress this year, with ! the distinct understanding, however, that two years from now wo place Mr Dor ham in his seat at Washington. What say you, follow citizens to the above suggestions? Life Long Citizens. In view of the fact that the beauty and chivalry of Horry will assemble in Conway, and besides she sho will entertain quests from abroad during the dedicatory exercises of tho Temple of Justice, would it not ho a sort of commendation to the progress of our pretty little city to have the grounds surround ing ine court house cleaned up, tho unsightly ditches facing Third Avenue (deaued out and graded so as to carry oil' the stagnant water and the bridge across tho Avenue and tho one leading from the Avenue to the front entrauceof tho court house put in at least a passable conditions. The driveways in Lakeside cemetery have been laid off according to the plans of the city of the dead and plowed up, and here tho work of improvement seems to stopped. Our information is that this work was done not by the cemetery com mission of the town council, but. by a public spirited citizen who took this method of showing his appreciation of the improvement of the place where rest the revered remains of loved ones. In this connection it is not a betrayal of confidence in saying that some months ago Mayor Smith informed the Herald Man that tho policy of tho town council was not take once cont of tho revenue from the sale of squares, as well as from other sources, but that it was to be used by tho commission in beautifying and improving the cemetery premises. We can't say that the commission lias any funds at its iisposal, the presumption is that it ias not or t>lse the placo would present a far different appearance from vlial it does today. Taking this /iow of the situation we would suggest, and we make the suggestion without any desire of bolngoffensive >r meddlesome, that the citizens of Jon way agree to place at the dispo>al of the secretary of the commission a stated amount, either in noney or kind, to be used exclusivey in the improvementof the grounds >oth in unci outside of thoenclosure. Accusation Denied. Mr Editor:? Please allow mo space ,o reply to a little newsy article in rour last weeks issue signed by Mr s. Q Floyd, which said 1 was circulating false reports upon him. His itatement that I was circulatii g die report is false. I never heaid if tho matter until I saw his article n the paper, and 1 immediately inpiircd in his section if any such report was going and his friends and neighbors had heard nothing of it until they saw his piece in the paper. Therefore I ? an not seo where the report originated. 1 have been dealing with Mr Floyd for four years and our transactions have always been very p'easant. I am not answering this article for any controversy, only want to tell Mr Floyd and his author that the false report is under the apple tree. In justice to Mr Floyd, I can say that he paid me his last year's account in due time, and that is tho last business we have had with him but would sell him again as before with one exception, which he well uriows the reason.
