Tn accordance with rules of the democratic party of South Carolina, the Horry county convention of the party was held in the new court house on last Monday, May 4th. Tho convention was called to order at 11 o'clock by J A. McDcrmott, county chairman, who read tho call for the inciting. On motion Hon J. M .Stalvoy, of Stalvey, was elected tem*i>orary chairman, and L. B. Singleton, Ksq , of Conway, was elected temporary secretary. On motion J A sicDermott wns elected permanent chairman and j O Norton permanent secretary of thf convention. The convention was then declared organized and reudy for business The election of six deleg. t s to the State convention was next In order. A M Dnsenbury moved that nominations be made on the floor of the convention and that the election be by ballot. A resolution by the Conway delegation rolativo to providing for the nomination of magistrates in the primaries was also adopted by the convention. On tho call of the convention, Col /\ .it' v^uui/weuiuim made a brief speech thanking the convention for iis endorsement of his candidacy. The convention at about 2 o'clock adjourned sine die. Conway now enjoys the distinction of having a business house devoted exclusively to the jobbing business. You may turn and twist it as you may but the fact remains that the only hope for Conway is a cotton factory. Comptroller General A. W. Jones arrived in the city last Friday and spcnt several day here in settlement with county officers. Ralph lTarrelson has accepted a position with W. W.
