The speed the automobiles make 1
through the public streets of Con - 1
way is becoming to be alarmingly \
dangerous. That no accident has ,
heretofore occurred is no reason to i
say that accidents will not happen i
If we have the power to limit the i
speed of trains through our streets *
to four miles an hour it naturally '
follows according to the rules of '
law, justice and equity that we *'
have the same authority to limit the 1
speed of automobiles. What comfort
will it be to the crushed heart
of a mother as she hugs the bleeding,
bruised and mangled form of the
child she bore to her bosom and by
the warmth of her own body seeks to
keep alive the spark of life in thelarcerated
body, for him who wrought ?
such suffering to say, "1 did not
mean to do it!" Does this acknowledgement
wipe away a single tear?
Does it bring a ray of hope to the r
mother's heart us she keeps the u
midnight hours watching the storm j
tossed form which she doth so fondly (!
love? Does it ease one pain of N
body or torture of mind? Not at \
ad. Regrets are too late! The t;
damage has been done! The wind- |
ing sheet is around the casket of the \
soul, or else tho body is sent out a (
cripple to fight the battle of life. Too j
late then for apologies! Too late (
for vain regrets. The mischief has ,
beeu done; the wreck wrought and ,
the child maimed through a crimi- j
nal disregard for the lawful rights, |
as wen as tne lire and person of
pedestrians. Let us put a stop to j
this reckless riding before any de- ,
plorable accident occurs. It is time l
for our city fathers to take ahand in \
tliis game of chance, and if there is* (
no ordinance limitint/ the speed of (
automobiles on the streets of Con- j
way, there should be one enacted |
immediately so as to protect our lit- ,
tie ones from possible danger.

That truth is stranger than fiction,
has once more been demonstrated
in the little town of
Fedora, Tenn., the residence of C.

She was 40 years, 2 months and

thirteen children?seven boys and <]
six girls. She leaves a father and
mother, three sisters and eleven
children to mourn our loss, but we
feel that our loss is her eternal gain. i
She joined Pleasant View Baptist

and was a faithful member until her
death. May God bless the bereaved
