THURSDAY, JUNK li. DK)7
The whirligig of time has made
another i evolution and brought with
it a revolution in public sentiment
A man prominent in the politics of
this nation in the shadowy side ol
the .sixties; a represontivc in the
United States Senate from a State
whose admission to the Union was
undoubtedly the principal cause that
led up to the war between the
States, was driven from home and
made a wanderer on the face of the
earth because be had the courage of
his conviction. To refresh the memory
of those who lived in the times
when the incident occurred, we take
the following from an exchange:
"Edmund C. Ross. former united
States Sen Jktor from Kansas, who
gave the decisive vote against the
conviction of President Johnson at
his impeachment trial in 18t?8. Ross
recently died in wretched poverty
and complete obscurity in a little
town in New Mexico, lie was driven
from home by the feeling against
him because of his vote at the im
peachment trial. Now Kansas is
agitating the question of erecting a
monument to him on the grounds of
the capitol at Topeka."
How mnch more good would it
have done ihe nl<t iii!>? V?n/1 tlm
pie of Kansas seen to it that his declining
years were surrounded with
at least the comforts of life, or even
a recall home, at a time when he
could appreciate their sympathy
and good will rather than wait un
til his {eyes are closed and his
ears deaf to rigli t. a wrong.
Ileum rkalilc llcai'iic.
That truth is stranger than lictiou,
has once more been demonstrated
in the little town of
Fedora, Tenn., the residence of C.
V. Pepper. He writes: "1 was in
bed, entirely disabled with hemorrhages
of the lungs and throat.
Doctors failed to help mo, and all
hope had fled when I began taking
Dp King's New Discovery. Then
instant relief came. The coughing
soon ceased; the bleeding diminished
vapidly, and in three'weeks I was
able to go to work," Guaranteed
cure for coughs and colds. 50c and

In l.oviiiMf Memory,
The death angel visited the home
of Mr Frank and Mrs Mary Selhirs
on way .sum, umiy, and took away
their little daughter, Ruby May al
the age of one year, one month and
twenty-two days. She was sick
eighteen days and sulVered untold
agony. All was done that loving
hearts and willing hands could do.
but alas! as time passed she grew
weaker and weaker and at last we
had to give her up.
Little liuby was a bright and intelligent
child and was the apple of
the eye to both parents and grandparents,
but the heavenly Father
knew best and look the precious
one from us to live with him on
high. May the sadness of those who
weep for their loved ones find in
their hearts the truth of Job. "The
Lord gave and the Lord hath taken
away. Blessed be the name of the
Lord."
Dear little Ruby, gone to thy rest
fair child;
Gone to thy dreamless bed,
Gentle, meek and mild,
With blessings on thy head.
Before thy heart could learn,
In waywardness to stray;
Before thy feet could turn,
The dark and downward way.
A Friend.

All quiet here now.
Some sickness in our community
at this time.
Crops though a little late are looking
well and have had some refreshing
showers.
Very few of our people attended
court. None attended except those
who had business there.
Messrs Leassy of Wilmington, and
Duucan of Fayetteville, visited our
section recently looking to the interest
of the Standard Turpentine Co.
Our people are generally to busy
to visit much.
I will say to farmer No 2, it is
supposed Adam had a good many
children but the names of only three
are given?Cain, Abel and Seth.

The health of the community is
generally good with but ft?vv exeep
lions.
Sihee tin* recent pleasant showers
crops are looking line, ami the out
look is for a bountiful harvest.
Our public roads are not in very
good condition as there has not
been much work done >n them this
year. In fact there has not been
any work whatever performed on
some of the roads.
There seems to be quite an ad
vaneement along the line of religious
work in our community. We have
an interesting Sunday school at
Bculah, which we believe has, and
will continue t.o be productive of
much good We are working hard
to religiously train those under our
care for the service of Christ and
the enjoyment of heaven.
There was a temperance class
organized at Heulah on last Sunday
and we. are glad to report that very
near all the young people as well as
the older ones in our neighborhood
joined the same. This class together
with classes from other schools are
expected to form a temperance so
eiety in the near future. May the
Lord bless our dlorls m-wl ci'mvn
