The Herald has gained several
hundred new subscribers during the
new year.
All the teachers of the Burroughs
Graded School have been reelected
for the next term beginning next
September. Some of them however
may resign. The Herald is informed
that it is intended to add a male
principal to the teaching force, and |
also that a department of music will
be added next fall,
W A Moore, surveyor, has been
employed for some time in making
a survey of the lands of Horry Land
& Improvement Company lying in
and near the corporation. He will
make a plat of the entire property.
The names of Miss Ora Tyler and
Mr C K Harrelson were omitted in
some way from the list of those
obtaining certificates published in
the paper last week. Their names
should have been published with
the ot hers.

The sheritT and town marshals had 'i

whiskey as fuel at the court house
square last Friday evening witnessed
by a curious crowd of people see A

t welve gallons, nine of which were
furnished by the county ollici.ds and
the remaining three by the town
authorities. It wus evidently of low (

added to make it burn rapidly. The
scent of it, however, was all there.

Crows are awful bad on core this
spring. A certain man in our sec- i
tion remarked the other day that
beyond a doubt the? crows had gotten
so sharp ttiat they gather in his field
before day and some of them would
hold hand torches for the rest, to pull
the corn,- he was asked why he didn 't 1
string thread up in his corn, oh that >
does not do any <?ood, he replied. I

shall he complete upon the expiration
of 20days after the last publication
thereof.
