THURSDAY, APRIL 18 1907
Politics in this part of the moral
vineyard are at a standstill. They
must be playing hide and seek with
the voter in the woods.
We have been having March
weather in April Sometimes nature
plays wild pranks upon the self
opinionated weather prophet by
changing the established order of
thiDgs.
We are glad to notice that the city
fathers, acting under the recommendation
of 'he Board of Health, uave
had the Kingston [Intel ditch thor
oughh cleaned and put in good sanitary
condition and walied with
boards.
An effort is being made to get
some good man to take charge of the
tobacco warehouse in this place.
There is money in it for an energetic
man, who will take hold of the
enterprise with a determination to
make a success of it.
If a cotton factory were in operation
in Conway many of the vacant
lots in the business centre of
the city would be adorned with hand
some utick siores wouldn't such
a condition be lovely?
We are glad to say that the dam
age done the strawberry industry by
the Easter cold wave was not nearly
so great as at tlrst reported. True
some injury was done but it did not
materially affect the crop. The
growers, instead of wearing long
laces, are as happy as if they were
millionaires.
" Pneumonia'* Deadly Work"
had so seriously affected my right
lung," writes Mrs. Fannie Connor, of
Rural Boute 1, Georgetown, Tenn.,
' that I had coughed continuously
night and day and the neighbors'
prediction ? consumption ? seemed
inevitable, until my husband brought
home a bottle of Or King's New
Discovery, which in my case proved
to be the only real cough cure and

The farmers of this section this
year will plant more grain crops
than ever before and less cotton. I
think they will use less fertilizers
and make less liens than ever. This
if generally observed will bring the
farmers out of the dark corners.
If the farmers of other sections
are planting as little tooacco as we
are here, the tobacco warehouse will
be used for sheds,

Our Superintendent of Education
and Trustees seem to be at a stand
still. Whether they don't care or
not, I am unable to say. I have
thought that it was i>ecause the
people would not use the opportunity
that was afforded them, hence
those in authority would net discouraged.
Mr Editor, will you
p'ease answer the question? Do
vou not think that it would be best
for a law to be passed to com pell
parents to senu their children to
school so many mouths in each year?
I have been over several parts of
the roads, and have been utterly astonished
to find them in bad condition
and those in ohnri/o nr<> not
u&intf their authortiy Would it not
be better to enforce the law? Would
it not be best for our Supervisor to
be^iti to l'>ok after the roads and
make our overseers do their duty.
I truly hope no one will take ofTeuse
as ;t is not our purpose to #et up a
controversy but for the tfood of our
county.
We tobocco farmers seemed to be
little blue the other morning ove,
our frost bitten plants, but we are
in better spirits now. The farmers
have taken advantage of tho clear
weather and have pushed the plow
and are well up with their work.
