| BY W. IN. (i. | I
My dour friend:?1 very mueh uppreeiuti;
tfie request made by C. E. ]
G., for some one to write on Ihe '
subject of religioiD This is n sun- '
jcct that is very near to my heurt,
und one that should be given much 1
thought by every one of God's child- 1
ron.
Life is a gift from the Creator,
and as lie bestows this gift Ho also
places us on probation as His
stewards, and says: ''occupy till I
come," We have a God given religion,
and as wo are all created by
the one Divine Being, we are of one
family; then wo should ask ourselves
solemn question, "What sot t of a
spirit should rule in the family or
in schools?" Nothing can unite and
bring into harmony a family or
school except the spirit ( f love.
When God created man and breathed
into linn the breath ol life he became
a living soui. Ileeieuled him
in IIis image, so man became a
I trinity, body, soul and spiut, with
| each a capacity separate and dis
I tinet. God's word tells us that our
1 body was made for his temple, and
I how earefullv we should guard against
|| anything unclean or unholy, for how
dare wo defile the temple of the living
God? The soul, which is the '
breath of God, is the part that is to
' exist forever. Nothing can prevent
the everlasting existence of the
soul. Our Saviour said, 'lam the
way, the truth, the life." ?>o the
only true life, the soul can have is
found in Him who is the life. Tim
spirit is that part of us that sus-'
ceptible to this 1?fe, that alone can
lift us from the lower things which
we are told are carnal and draw us
up to the higher and nobler things
that are spritual and divine.
What is our duty to our fellow
man? Love him as we would nave
him love us. Ho unto him as we
would have him do unto us. ,
If God in his love arid compassion
has placed us in a land where ;
His word ?s in every home and His
gospel preached in every community
and where the light of His divine
truth shines out, and there is a spot
where all in darkness and ignorance
is abounding, if we are living as we
should, would we not with glad hasie
send the light and knowledge of a
Saviour's pardoning' love? Yet so
many who profess to be His children
seem to shut up the bowels ol compassion.
The word says: "llow
dwelleth the love of God in that
i heart?" Life is a task, ever to improve,
to work earnestly through
this short period of probation, ho
that at the elo*e, we may hear the
I Master say: "Well do up thou true
and faithful servant, miter tljou into
the joys of thy Lord."
