Our attention has been called to
an article over the signature of T.
M Johnson in reference to the establishment
of a free ferry at ('ox's
Kerry, which we think does our supervisor
a ^reat injustice, and is calculated
to mislead the uninformed.
Mr Johnson seemed to have a decided
preference for Savannah MlulT
and doubtless it would be somewhat
to Mr 13u mouths' financial interest
too, but the board was compelled to
view this matter from a business
standpoint, regardless of the proh-1

there are good and snMicieni reasons
why Cox's Ferry was chosen over
Savannah 1.51 nIT. The board request*

to establish the free ferry and in
this way they could determine the

hence the free ferry at Cox's Ferry.
Furthermore, we are informed we

As to whether or not the hoard
committed an error of judgment,
the public are the judges and we
pass on. There are many obstacles
thrown in the way of our super
visor and county board rnd it is impossible
for them to please everyone.

are chosen by the people who are

prosecutrix in the case is the wife of
Mr. Jones and she claimed that they
should lie bound to the peace, Magistrate

and by mutual consent the ease was
transferred to Magistrate (J. \V.
Cartrett. Magistrate Cartrett was
present and readv to try the cases
when it turned that the prosecutrix
was sick and could not attend. Nor

and at lirst made a motion for
a continuance of the hearing, but
finally he consented to a dismissal of
the charges. Many witnesses were

The father of l)r D T Riley died
at his home in Orangeburg county
last Saturday. The Doctor received
the telegram informing him of his
father's death too late to catch the
afternoon train and so had to go
across the country to Marion, and
there take the Atlantic Coast Line
traiu for Orangeburg.
