Thoro was quite a crowd at Daisy on
jounty campaign day to listen to
the excellent speeches that were made
by the candidates. There aro good
men running for each ottlpy, in fact
it is a set of intelligent gentlemen on
this campaign, i think each ollice
can honorably be tilled with a good
man. I hope the people will make a
wise choice in electing a good man
for Supervisor, not that I have a
word to put before the public against
any single candidate, but as this is
an important ollice and this being a
time when our financial interests
should be taken care of, we should
look well to whom we place in trust.
When 1 turned the ollice over to my
successor the county was not it debt .
1 never issued an order against the
county unless the Treasurer had
funds to meet it, and never contracted
any debt unless first knowing the
funds were in hand for same, the
Treasurer always handing in monthly
statements cf what ho had on
hand which gave me an idea of the
amount that coul\J be drawn. The
Supervisor cannot borrow money
and run the county in debt unless
the Treasurer, together with himself.

we have at this time 1 don't think
there will be money and I am of the
Treasurer's opinion c'on't lets borrow
money but run the ordinary expenses
with the amount of taxes
collected. It can be done, and has

if taken into the system, creates a
craving appetite for itself, degenerates
the powers of man and shortens
life. Tho man who is trying to
quench his thrist for whiskey by the
continued use of alcoholic liqu.rs
may be compared with the man who
is trying to put out lire by constantly
adding more fuel. To never take a
drink is one safe guard. In order
to fight tho Elf that lurks about
youth's brink, they need more help
than the words <4dont drink.''
We would advise them to abstain
from the evil, even to the point of
being alone, oll'euding their friends
and winning the criticism of their
associates.
When we have the chance of casting
our vote, if we feel it our duty
to cast it for a man who docs not
favor compromising with an evil,
but favors prohibiting it, let us
practice what we teach. Though
we lose our vote and friends and win
criticism, wc have not lost the confidence
cf our imitators and they
probably following our example.when
