The canvass lias been very pleasant, pitched on a high plane and conspicious for an abei.ee of "mud slinging' which has characterized many of its produces- sors. All the candidates agroe as to this feature of the campaign conscqucuty we argue that conditions have materially chunked for the bet tor than the former ones held in late years and this can be account for on two hyjKJthesis?both of which ; are sitois that times have changed and with them the opinions of men ?first, the people would rather be informed as to the various political issues being discussed than the alleged shortcomings in intellect and character of the candidates themselves and, second, the candidates submitted to this demand and were on their good behavior. There was quite a large crowd of voters in town that day and each candidate was given a close and respectful hearing. On the whole this can be eonsidercr a campaign of education on questions of State government. Chairman J. A. Lewis called the meeting to order. Col. !h A. RMALIi said he could render the people better services in the oflice than they had been receiving. Is opposed to free ferries. The people ean have bridges if they want them. Bridges across Little Pee should be kept in better condition. Jumped on Mr. Holt for paying A. C. Murrell $5.00 per day for work 011 Kingston Lake bridge and for other acts in connection with the road work. J Ell KM IAII Ml SHOE said the people had solicited him to enter the race and he felt they wore entitled to his sorvicos. His record as a County Commissioner is beforo the people. He knows how to make good roads and knows a bridge when he sees it. Is not fighting any of his competitors. W. L. SI NO I,ETON said ho had no promises to make.
