The body of an unknown white
man was washed upon the beach in ;
bho neighborhood of Cherry (Ircve
last week. It is supposed that lie
was washed otl of a lishing boat and
was drowned. He was clothed in a

to the people about rattle River.
The Liev. II. K. Singleton failed
to lill his regular appointment at
Salem on last Sunday, but he was
was supplied by the Rev. Ben Kikes.
Mr. .1 K. Nixon made a flying trip
to Kiltie River one day last, week on
business.
The candidates were hero recently
shaking hands and telling the people
what great things they would do for
them if they would just elect them

trial of a ease brought bv Win. M. k
I'arker against the town and its of- I
icials for the recovery of eleven 1,
juarts of whiskey seized from his u
premises inside the corporate limits.
The whiskey liad been found on
August 7th in adit !? near the rcsi- ?
lence of Parker by a small boy who N
lost no time in telling it over the <town
that ' forty quarts of whiskey 1
had been found in a ditch." This *
story came to the ears of the ollicials }
and they went and took the whiskey, '
linding only eleven quarts, however, '
and turned it over as "contraband"' '
to the town. I
Parker alleged that he purchased
this liquor for his personal use. and <
brought action in claim and delivery j
to recover it back. i
The trial was set for Wednesday
and both sides wore represented by
attorneys.
A jin y was demanded and the following
gentlemen were selected as a
jury: J. C. Hruton, S A. Smith. W.
(J. Chestnut, John Daniel, W. ().
Jordan. The proceedings in the
court were started about 10 o'clock
n the forenoon and when the jury
came out with their verdict it was
after 10 o'clock at night. They found
the whiskev for Parker, ihe plaintiff
and ten dollars damages.

good member. His face will be

as jury commissioners,
met last week and drew the petit
jurors for the approaching term of
the criminal court.
There was a colored excursion
party from Conway, by boat, on our
streets on Saturday. One of the
darkeys shot oft' his pistol at another
one, as the boat was leaving; the
bullet went right into the crowd
standing on the wharf, but no one
was killed. The criminal, (for criminal
he is) was brought back here on
Monday and lodged in jail.?Georgetown

from Galivants berry that visited
Myrtle Leach last Friday evening.
They were accompanied by Charles

visiting relatives and friends in
