Cool Spring- SpnrkliiiKa
It rains, it rains. It lias been
raining hero for ton weeks without
missing many days. Soino days it
has been light and others it has ooon
heavy.
Tobacco in this section is a failure,
being drowned in the lit Id, and cotton
people will not make half a crop.
There are hits of people that will
give their cotton crop to any one
that will pay for the fertilizer they
first put under it. March corn wiil
make some as it was made-before the
rains got to bo excessive, but
late corn will not make halt a
crop, having fired to the car. This
is a very hard year on the fellow that
tills the soil for his daily bread.

Lewis Squires, of this piuoe. is ill
at this writing. We hope to see
him on our streets again soon.
J . W. Johuson, Esq., of the Kchoboth
section, was here recently.
Come again, Squire your visits are
appreciated.
Quito a lot of us from this section
went to the Pee Dec Union at I'leasant
Union week before last.
Quite a crowd of young people of
this section attended the picnic at
Mt. Pisgah.
Jesse Mishoe. of Gurloy, is spending
a few days with his parents.
Politics are very quiet up here.
People are very serious over the
condition of their crops, but I guess
they will livon up when the campaign
opens.
Messrs. Sam and Jere Smith are
spending a few days in Marlborough
county.
P. W. I luck, who has been clerking
for It. T. liar man, has resigned
his position and is back home again.
There will be aChildien's Day and
picnic at Salem Baptist church on
Saturday before the fourth Sunday
in this month. We have a good Sudday
school with W. II. Moore for
Superintendent. Mr. Editor, can't
wo book you on the program to
make us a speech? K. L. M.
Galveston's Sea Wall
makes life now as safe in that oily as
on the higher uplands. E. W.Goodloe,
who residesou Dutton st., in Waco,
Texas, needs no sea wall for safety.
He writes: "I have used Dr. King's

the past five years and it keeps mo
well and safe. Before that time I
had a cough for years which had
been growing worse. Now its
gone," Cures chronic coughs, la

A Pleasant Day,
[This article was written for last
week's issue, but was unavoidably
crowded out owing to the late hour
it was brought in. )
The "Chidrcn's Day' and picnic
at PisgaU on August 4th, was a
grand success. It seemed that the
hand of Providence, aided by other
forces, favored the occasion?rain, i
which has been so common, was withheld.
Reverend Wait's interesting and
instructive lecture on ''HomeTraining"
would have made the day a success,
to say nothing of the able
though extemporaneous address of
Rev, J. N. Wright, whose speech
was not a lon<' drawn mit. "mi* o.i/l

dried" speech as Dr. Walter's was,
however, it was good.
The school had quite a nice little
program which was thought to have
been a complete success, but the talk
by Mrs. Wait holds the most prominent
(place in the writer's mind.
She, inher quiet, mother like way,
told the audience the importance of
giving out to others, and not from
the purse only but from the heart as
well.
Not withstanding the large gathering,
the picnic was a success. All
seemed to have been bountifully fed.
