In this issue of the paper appears
the announcement of Geo. H. Jones
for the ollice of representative from
(lorry County. Mr. Jones' pledge
was filed in time but owing to press
of other matters his announcement
card has not appeared in the paper
until now. He thought of withdrawing

he {make the race and will not let
him come out of the it. Mr, Jones is
a farmer and understands tho needs
of farmers among whom he lives.
He undertakes in his card to jitAnd

session of this Union is large, being
composed of eighteen regular Missionary

which were almost fully represented.
It seemed that the delegates and
ministers all came up to the session
full of the spirit of unity and the
power of the Holy G host came down
and abode with us. It reminded us
of the Day of Petecost when they
all saw eye to eye and had all things!
common. Our beloved pastors did
some of their best preaching on this]
occasion which was greatly enjoyed.
We feel safe when in the midst of
such preachers as the Stanleys. Skipper,

Till: MAK1. BEDS.
There are Several of These Beds
Owned l>y .Mr, B. B. Vereen at
Bear Bltiff. Others in Vicinity.
There ai o some marl boils alonjj
the Waceainaw river in the vicinity
ot Hear Hlwtl, that would be very
valuable to the farmers of that seclion
of the county, if facilities wore
provided whereby the marl miyht be
Iran sported to the fields.
There is one of these beds on the
land of Mr. I?. R. Vereen. known as
Limestone Hill. This marl bed is
one hundred and liftv feet in length
I and thirty feet deep. Further up
the river is another on the s one
I trad of land. There is one near the
W. I\ Nixon landing and one near
(1 rahamvillo. There is another near
what is called Tilde's lake measuring
one hundred feet in length and
from twenty live to thirty- live feet
in depth. Several more have been
found at Hoard Landing and probably
as far up the river as Red HlulV.
The marl taken from these beds
will produce as line crops as the best
of fertilizer it is said. Any farmer
would be tfkul to have his Molds well
supplied with the rich soil. Hut
the dilliculty lies in obtaining the
stulV. The beds are situated so that
it can only be brought to the highland
by moans of boats and llals.
It would not cost a oreat deal to
purchase the machinery for the
operation of a cable on the same
plan as rock is conveyed from a
quarry. We see no reason why an
investment of this kind bv the own
ers of the beds would not be profitable.
In this way the marl inicht
be conveyed to the highland and
easily and cheaply nauled away.
The matter is well worth thinking
over.
