A Brilliant Weddtii*. Old Socastee Methodist church wasl the scene of a very pretty church wedding June 20th, 1904. The contracting parties being Miss Bertie S. Staivey of Stalvev. S C.. to Mr. H. Stacy Clardy of Waverly Mills, S. C. At 8:80 o'clock th<> sweet strains of Mendelsshons wedding march, skillfully rendered bv Miss Loula Johnson of Calivants Ferry, S. C., was the signal of the approaching party. The attendants were Miss Minnie Staivey with Mr. W. B. Clardy, Miss ! Leeds Turbeville with Dr. K A. i Staivey, Miss Anna King with Mr. Francis Fox worth, Miss Annie Laurie Staivey with Mr. Oscar Clardy. Then came slowly down the same isle the bride and groom who look their places under an ach It was indeed a beautiful see nee, the church being beautifully deco rated with moss, evergreens and potted plants. The bride was gowned in white liberty silk, her veil white tulle with orange blossoms, and carrying a shower bouquet of white carnations | and ferns She wore a necklace of gold set with pearls and rubies and a bracelet, t he gift of the groom. The bride's maids were dressed in pearl white silk and carried a bouquet cluster of white carnations. The groomsmen s wore the usual conventional black. After a very impressive ceremony performed by the Kev. Allen McFarland, the bridal party inarched out the opposite aisle to the same sweet music. After congratulations were extended by a host of friends, the party, with a few invited j/uests. attended a reception given at the home of the bride's father, which seemingly was enjoyed by all. Among the invited guest were Mr. Mack lrby of Charleston, Mr. Ralph Nesbit, Mr. 1*. li Lachicotte, Mr. Claud Lachicotte of Waverly Mills, and others. Many costly and valuable presents were received which shows the high esteem in which the young couple is held. After the ceremony the bride and groom, accompanied by Messrs. Mason Stalvey and Lauren Clardy, left for the Sea Side Inn at Myrtle Beach. After spending a few days there the bride and groom will go to their home on Pauly Island where they will spend the summer. The bride's is an accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J, M. Stalvey. She will be missed socially and otherwise in our community, being a good worker in Kpwoith League and Sunday school. Health of the community is very good at present. After some heavy showers, General Green came visiting through this section. Some few barns of tobacco have been cured around here this week. The water, during the recent rains, washed out a dangerous hole in the road between here and Michael Swamp bridge. We are always glad to hoar from the Florida hoys and want them to write long letters. Please let us hear from another Florida girl of sweet sixteen. J or or r, come from Columbus county, N C.} an'l said to be a watch tinker. lie put uo at this place and on last Saturday night, .lime 2Hrd, the deputy of Magistrate M. .1 Cox, with two other parties, came down here and arrested and tied him, claiming they had ajwarrant for him charging him with having insulted a man by the name ol Soles at Round Swamp. The deputy and his two partners were very disorderly and cruel to their prisoner, threatening to shoot him and kept their hands on their onus. They took him oil late at nioht. Soon after they started with him they met t wo negro men who live hereon Hie road. They stopped their team and leaving their prisoner in charge of one or their number the other two said they weregcing to show the two negroes how they could make them run. Sc one of the men drew his pistols and be^an to shoot over the heads of the negroes. Another one beat them down with a gun belonging to the prisoner and broke it, on them and almost killed them. Finally the tw^ negroes got away and the men pro ceeded on their way. And now the Magistrate, N J, Cox, claims that he had not giver his deputy any warrant for the negrc and knew nothing about it. Whal the men did with the negro no on< knows up to tli's time, but it is ver> strongly believed here that he was lynched and there is another report in circulation about it to the etTocI that he was wanted in North Caro Una and some one over there got Cox'kdeputy to take him across tlx South Carolina line.
