In response to a letter addressed
to 11iin somt) time ago, the county
chairman has received a letter from
Senator Tillman statin# that if
nothing prevents, he will be at
Con way on July 20 th with State
candidates, and will make an address
to the people. We have been requested
to publish this notice that
his friends and his enemies too, as
to that matter, may attend the
meet in# and hear what he has to
say.
His spoach will likely be a feature
of the occasion, although many of
the State candidates are good spe ik
ers and will claim their share of attention.
A large crowd of people is

Dear Herald:?As I am not a subscriber
to the Herald, you cannot
set me dow?A n.s* a deadhead. I am
fortunate enough as to have an upto
date Horry county son-in-law who
is a faithful patron of the paper, and
as such, 1 read every copy at his expense.
If such were not the facts
in the case, 1 would strain a point
rather than miss it. It is an excellent
paper and a gem among our
liles.
1 just ask the privilege to answer
the dear brother's question who
- . . X/ ? v I I will 1/(11 ojr 1UOU l\ I 1 U
asks somo one to answer two questions--viz:
1st ?"Does ihe Bible
teach us anything concerning the
distance of a Sunday's journey?"
2nd?"And where can we find it?"
Now, in reply 1 will say that
mention is made of a Sabbath day's
journey in the 1st chapter and 12th
verse of the Acts of Apostles, and
this is equivalent to answering the
first question, for Webster says Sunday
or Sabbath. The word Sunday
is not mentioned in the Bible, that
I know of; the word Sunday was derived
from Sun worship, or God's
day. Sunday the seventh day; the
day to worship the Sun or Sol.
2nd?As to how far or the exact
distance? We answer: That the
best clue to this is found in the
l(?th chapter 2nd verse. The best
Bibical expositors place the distance
at* about 2000 paces or 0000 feet.

There was an account in the Savannah
Morning News of a few days
agoabout the killing of a negro robber
near Savannah, while resisting <
arrest by deputy sherilT K. J.
Bourne. A bench warrant had been
issued for the negro and .placed in
the hands of Sherin Bourne. J. A.
Keller was pressed in to assist in I
making the arrest. The negro ran '
and got away before Bourne and
Keller got anywhere near him.
Blood hounds were obtained and .
the chase continued for about six
miles. The dogs caught the negr~>
near a church and when the men
came up lie was standing them oil
with a pistol. . Keller called to him
to surrender and lie held his hands
above his head retaining his pistol
in his hand, lie started toward
Keller but before he reached him

the Conway Coast A Western Railroad,
all the way from Myrt le Beach a
to Avnor the station just above
Dool Spring, named after Mrs. Ay- 1
nor, a lady who resided in Horry \

station stands on land she once

in her honor. The road bed is now '
said to be one of the test in the ('
State leaving out of consideration of *
course the A. C, L. main line. And
work is in progress now which will
make the track from this point to ('
the beach fully as good as the new 1
track from Conway to Cool Spring f
The old cars formerly used on the c
road, and which were much in need t
jf paint and repairs, have been dis- *

3u the road and will lie used in the 1
regular schedule which has been put t

Myrtle Beach on the other. One of
the things now mentioned as a nrob

Wo are pleased to be able to say
ii behalf of the Board of Health that
hey have done some excellent work
n draining that portion of town

ore to us all, besides detrimental to
lealth. We say again that too much
an t be said for the Board of Health
aid health ollieers in draining this
oul place. But let them continue
is there is much yet to do. The
litch in the rear of Kingston Hotel
sand always has been a source of
illicit annovauce and contention and
>1 ways will be until it is moved, as
t is in the wrong place; besides this
here are other foul places. For
nstaner there are two between (>tIt

Well, we note that all the merhunts

It is surprising to many to see
see so many idle colored boys and
youths loafing on the streets. They
congregate in large numbers on the
street corners and in divers places
often to the discomfort and inconvenience
of the more thrifty element
of our citizenship, both white

to the public wcel and an impediment
to the progress of the town

this Christian era. They will not
work for love nor'money; or even to
supply themselves with the common
necessaries of life. Such being the
case it is encumbent upon both the
State and city authorities to rigorous
enforce the vagrant law to the
end that the growing nuisance be
