of Bucks township, and his friends
say that he is the right man for
this position.

7. M. Dorman has entered tlie
race for Superintendent of Education
of Horry County and his card appears
in this issue in the candidates,
column, ins experience in the public
school and the interest lie luis
taken in education fits him for this
important oflice. He has been filling
a membership on the board of
supervisors of registration and is so
weil known over the county that
he needs no introduction.
The many friends of Mr. F. Alarion
Johnson have been urging him
to become a candidate for 1 he office
of Judge of Probate of Horry county
and his card appears this week in
another column. Mr. Johnson is at
present a citizen of Conway having
purchased a farm in the vicinity and
moved here about the last of last 1
year from Galivants Ferry. He is
popular and has made many friends
about Conway during his short residence
here, who will no doubt join
Galivants Ferry in wishing him
success.

Politics arc quiet around here.
K very body seems quite satisfied
as to the decision of the Supreme
Court in the Commander Johnson
case and think it a shame that county
and Stale had to be put to so
much expense- for what?

Crops in this section are gonerally
small for the time of the year

Oats are being harvested and are
as good as could be expected.
J. H. Hughes has the finest crop

Pruit is almost a failure here.

something encouraging about a
meeting of those interested in
draining the swamp and low lands
of the low country and to adopt sonic
systematic system by which this
object can be economically accomplished.
The circular handed tho Her
aid has been inadvertently misplaced
and the date and place of this meeting
arc forgotten, but, however, this
is an important matter and one that
should awaken thoughtful inteicst
in every patriotic son of Horry and
they should inform themselves con
corning this matter and take an active
part in furtherance of the object.
The Herald regrets that it is
not better informed and will be glad
if someone who is will write a short
letter of explanation for itscolumns.

I hear a general complaint of dry
weather among them I would be
glad to see more of them come to
Florida where we have rain just any
old time but 1 advise them not to
come until the water goes down
for it has been raining here for six
days. Tho water is five inches over
the surface and we don't know how
much higher it will get.

old Horry looks good to mo. Of
course tins is a fine healthy country.
We have good flowing sulphur wells,
plenty of work and very good wages
and all we need now is something to
take this water away so we can get
to work.
Well where .s the man that moved
away where the eagles and alligators
eat babys. 1 think the alligators
must have eat him, too, don't you?
