Dear Sir:?There is quite a lot of correspondence in ihe Herald on II A * * l nrsi. one suoject and men another, all of which I enjoy reading very much, but there is one thing I wont to write about which oughi o seriously interest every famil\ in Horry County, and that is canni g fruits and vegatables for family u All through the winter and spring months you can have fresh fruit and vegatables, and in addition to the healthfulness of this it cuts down expenses for other provisions. Most people look upon canning as a great big "Bugger Boo" while with the right kind of cannery and instruction book it is very simple, so much so that a 10 year old boy' with a little training can operate an outfit successfully. Another rea son why e\ery family should own a cannery is: they can put up their stufT and have it in shape so that they can sell when they please, and when prices suit, and not have to send to a crowded market and take what they are willing to give you, often taking nothing. This Union was organized on tho tirst Sunday in April nt Hinsons X Roads church near Fair I SI u IT, and held its tirst session ut Spring Branch church justorcr the line in Horrv county, the lifth Sunday in April. This session was veil attended. All the otlicers were present and quite a number of schools were epresented by letter and delegates The 1'resident called the meeting to order at 10 o'clock and Bro. Albert of Porter Swamp church, conducted the devotional exercise, next was the reports from tho different schools showing some spiritual activity After the business part of the ex crcises was Bro li. H. Hatcher's address of welcome in behalf of Spring Branch school. Then the Union took a short recess. So after the recess we returned to the house to hear some excellent speeches and soul stirring music. The tirst speaker was Bro. U. W. Shelly of Ilinson's X Roads church Bis subject was the duty of church members relative to Sunday school work. Next was the speech of Dr. Covington of Florence. 11c told us of the needs of good Sunday schools and how to conduct them. He showed some of the hindering causes and bid us go forward. A small collection was taken for Sunday school work in needy places. The Union endorsed the church papers and Sundav school litem! nro Words of praise were spoken for the N. 0. Baptist and Biblical Re corder. Tlie meeting adjourned to meet with the school at the Baptist school house, some seven miles from Fair BlulV, on the fifth Lord's day in July. Cor. Coats of Blanche, S. C Sister Ceily had been sick for three months and was attended by Drs, Norton of Conway and Dr. Floyd of Green Sea. All was done to alleviate her sulTerings by loving hands and kind friends but without avail for God who never makes a mistake, knew best and called her to dwell with him in the beautiful city. After moving to this county several years 1 ago, she removed her membership to Pleasant Union church where she | remained a consistent member until ner death. She had been a member ' for about 22 years. The eommu * nity has lost a good neighbor and' ; friend, the husband a faithful com ; panion and the children a good mother. She was known to this 1 writer 22 years aud lie feels confident ' that our loss is her eternal gain. She was quietly laid to rest in the ccm ctery at Rehobeth church. The funeral was preached by J. Walter Todd, She leaves a husband and seven children and a host of friends to mourn their loss, but we do not 1 mourn as those having no hope. The health of this community is good. vVe were visited last Saturday morning by a shower of rain. We were all gfad to see it. Mr. Dullard preached last Saturday at our church to a large congregation. Mrs. Fletcher Prince is visiting her parents. Mrs. Minnie Johnson visited her parents last Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Billy Morris and Mi9s Lisey Buffkin were quietly married last week, Mr. Joe Buffkin officiating. We wish them a Ion# and happy life with flowers all alon# their pathway.
