Mr. Editor: As 1 haven't seen any thing from here for some time, I will write you a few lines for publication in the columns of your interesting paper. With a few exceptions the health of the surrounding country is very good at present. Rev. Calvin Gasque, a citizen living near here, seems to be suffering j very much from a severe attack of rheumatism. He has the sympathy of many relatives and friends. Gen. Green is making his anpearance in line array and we think from the condition of affairs just now that its going to be a hard fought battle between him and the farmers this season. Rev. Georgs llarrelsoa preached at the Allen school house on last Sunday evening. It is said that it takes all kinds of people to make a world and I think if this be the case it will take writing on several good subjects to make a good county newspaper a success, So under these circumstances 1 think it necessary to have some visiting occassionally. Miss Emma McNair of Gideon, is spending some time with her sister, Mrs. McCall. Mr. Noah Shelly of Cool Spring, was in this vicinity last Sunday afternoon. We are glad to report a few rainy days which was very much needed in our section. The farmers are in better heart about their crops| now. There was a very nice children's day at Floyd's church last ounday, May 20ih, A large crowd attended. Among those present were Messrs Robert Moody and Charlie Flays from Kemper, Miss Mollic Ford and brother from Nichols and Mr. and Mrs. Agrippa Williamson from Spring Branch. It is sa.d that Mr. E. M. Mcares has the finest tobacco in our com r unity. Mr. By ram Pierce was visiting in the community Sunday. Mr. Oliver Blanton was visiting in this section last Saturday night and Sunday. Oh! I forgot what Uncle Ned said about visiting. But never mind, 1 won't tell if bo comes. Come on, Uncle Ned, we would like to hear, from you every week. Thero has been a great deal of fishing done this year by the people of our section. It is reported that G. W. Dudney and A. M. Small caught something over one hundred one day last week, so your know they had good bait. The writer thinks that some of the boys will have to stop fishing at nights so the owls can stay in the swamp. I am informed that one night last week a little yearling frightoned four of our bravest men into the top of a tree while fishing on the banks of the river. I think it must have been a terrible yearling. Grasshopper. There were showers of rain lust Friday night and on Sat urday morning, and they were indeed showers of blessings in time of need. Marthinson of Washington, was here several days last week on legal business. J. Q. Johnson of Zoan was in town one day last week, spending some time with his friends. Mr. A L. Dan forth of the Homewood Nursery Co., was on the streets a few days ago with the finest load of oats that we have ever seen. MoDermott have read the short notice copied from the Columbia State to the effect that he would be a candidate for a State ollice this year, and have been writing him to find out if it were true, He has asked us to state that he will not run for any State office, but will likely be a candidate for reelection t: the office of County Treasurer. Graham was settling for fertil i'/.er and strawberry crates at Boris he accidently left his pocket book containing one hundred dollars in twenty dollar bills lying on the counter, and in less time than he could return from the front door of the store it was missing.
